Weekly Stars, Illini Midgets, and Beer Mile this Friday at Madison

There’s something for everyone at Madison International Speedway this Friday night. See the Whelen All American NASCAR Late Models, Dave’s White Rock Sportsman, and the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits plus the open wheel ILLINI Racing Series Midgets who are venturing north to the Badger State.

The second annual “Beer Mile” is also back on the “Ring of Fire” for those brave enough to take the challenge. It’s a unique event where competitors must consume a beer before running each of the four laps on the quarter-mile. There are divisions for Men, Women, Over 50, and the “Big Man Challenge” for those over 250 pounds. The overall winner receives beer for a year with the “Big Man” winner receiving a keg of beer. Prizes for other divisional winners. Entry fee is $20.00. Sign up now at misracing.com/beermile. Last year’s winner was Chris Koepke.

The racing action is really starting to heat up at Madison. In the NASCAR Late Models, Jeremy Miller and Michael Bilderback have each garnered feature wins so far this season in a very competitive division with over twenty cars and stars battling it out on the half-mile. The division includes drivers with a total of ten Late Model championships at Madison and over 70 feature wins. Austin Nason is the current points leader in the division.

Robert Hansberry Jr. is two for two in features for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman so far in 2017. He is also tied for the most wins (15) in the Sportsman division since it was added in 1998. Dave Schmidt races with his own checkered flag in the car and picked up the season opening win for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits last week.

The Illini Racing Series Midgets are a pavement open wheel division who will be making one stop at Madison in 2017. The series has two events under their belts so far with Billy Hulbert winning at Grundy County and Ryan Probst taking home the checkered flag at Rockford.
