Jeremy Miller, Ray Hellenbrand, and Nick Schmidt Also Pick Up Wins
Ty Majeski (Super Late Models), Jeremy Miller (Late Models), Ray Hellenbrand (Sportsman), and Nick Schmidt (Bandits) picked up the wins tonight at Madison as part of Bobcat of Janesville Night.
Ty Majeski Wins Triple Crown Challenge Round Two
Ty Majeski won the 50 lap feature for the Super Late Model Triple Crown Challenge tonight. The win was his fourth in Triple Crown history at Madison.
Chris and Jason Weinkauf paced the field to the green flag. After a pair of laps Jason Weinkauf took the top spot followed by Chris Weinkauf, Ty Majeski, Casey Johnson, and Austin Nason. On lap 8 Majeski moved to the inside of Chris Weinkauf and the two ran side by side for two laps before Majeski took the second spot with Johnson into third.
On lap 12 Majeski found room to the inside of Jason Weinkauf to take the lead coming out of turn two. One lap later Johnson moved into second place setting his sights on the lead.
Majeski was able to build his lead and by lap 20 had increased it to four car lengths with Nason a distant third. At the half-way point the lead was 0.5 seconds with Majeski and Johnson turning nearly identical lap times. Moving up through the field was the car of Rich Bickle Jr. who moved past Jason Weinkauf on lap 29 to take over the fourth spot.
With 15 laps to go Majeski’s advantage had increased to nearly a full second over Johnson. The only thing Johnson and the rest of the field could do at this point was hope for a caution flag, but it never materialized as Majeski picked up the checkered flag. Johnson, Nason, Bickle Jr. and Jason Weinkauf rounded out the top five.
“it’s tough not racing as much here. It’s tough to come and race against these guys. I feel so honored to come back here and race these cars,” said Majeski. “Toby’s been doing his homework and I’ve been doing mine.”
Casey Johnson set fast time with a circuit of 17.616 (102.180 mph). Johnson also was fast qualifier in the first round in June. Heat winners were Matt Kocourek and Ty Majeski.
Jeremy Miller Picks Up the Late Model Checkered Flag
Jeremy Miller picked up his first feature win of the season in tonight’s 30 lap feature for the NASCAR Late Models. It was his 15thcareer Late Model win at Madison.
Kyle Taylor and Pat Richgels brought the field to the green flag. Brian Beale worked his way past the front row to take the lead after the first lap. Quickly moving up behind Beale were Brent Edmunds, Zack Riddle, Jeremy Miller, and Bobby Wilberg.
On lap 3 Edmunds moved to the inside of Beale to take the lead only to lose it to Riddle one lap later. On lap 5 Miller moved into second with John Baumeister Jr. up to third on lap 6 just before the caution flag waved for an incident in turn four that sent Will Rece and Wilberg to the back of the field.
Riddle continued to lead followed by Miller, Baumeister Jr., Edmunds, and Scheel. On lap 9 Miller pulled to the inside of Riddle coming out of turn four to take the lead shortly before the caution flag came out for an incident in turn two that resulted in Edmunds going to the tail end of the pack.
On the restart Miller and Scheel ran side by side before Miller gained the advantage on lap 12. Riddle took the second spot coming out of turn two on lap 13 with Baumeister Jr. doing the same one lap later. At the half-way point Miller had extended his lead to three car lengths over Riddle.
As the laps quickly counted down, Miller was able to open up his lead and cruise to victory lane as Riddle held off Baumeister Jr. at the stripe for second with Scheel and Jon Reynolds Jr. rounding out the top five.
“We’ve been working on this car all night in the pits. It was good tonight,” said Miller. “It was good, hard racing tonight.”
Jeremy Miller was fastest in qualifying with a lap of 18.862 (95.430 mph). It was Miller’s second fast time of the season. Zack Riddle won the Dash with heat wins going to Brian Beale and Shaun Scheel.
The Night Belongs to Ray Hellenbrand
Ray Hellenbrand won his first-ever feature at Madison International Speedway in the 20 lap main event for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman.
Sam Messel and Bryan Hellenbrand led the field to the green flag with Messel taking the lead, but Trevor Robinson was on the move and quickly up to second. On lap 10 Robinson moved to the inside of Messel and took the lead on lap 11 with Ray Hellenbrand and Gary Hellenbrand close behind.
On lap 12 Messel regained the lead from the outside and built up a two car length lead over Ray Hellenbrand and Robinson before the caution came out on lap 14 for a spin in turn two.
The restart found Messel and Ray Hellenbrand running side by side before Messel spun coming out of turn 3 bringing out the caution.
Now it would be Ray Hellenbrand on the inside and Mike Taylor on the outside for the restart with Ray Hellenbrand jumping out to a sizeable lead and marching his way to the checkered flag. Robinson was second followed by Taylor, Bryan Hellenbrand, and Jake Biever.
“This means so much,” said Hellenbrand from victory lane who also thanked his family for their support.
Setting quick time in qualifying was Gary Hellenbrand with a lap of 20.543 (87.621 mph). It was his second-ever fast time at Madison. Trevor Robinson won the Dash and the heat race.
Two in a Row for Nick Schmidt
Nick Schmidt won the 25 lap for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits. It was the second win in a row for the division’s point leader.
Jeremy Bredeson and Steve Dickson raced side by side for the first three laps before Dickson took the top spot. Dickson opened up a ten car length lead with Nick Schmidt closing the gap quickly and on lap 11 was right on the bumper of Dickson before taking the lead on lap 12.
Schmidt and Dickson checked away from the field with Dickson doing his best to keep it close. Despite Dickson’s best efforts, Schmidt was simply too strong tonight as he picked up the win. Bredeson, McKayla Adams, and Bill Kohn completed the top five.
“The key is being patient and waiting for the door to open,” said Schmidt from victory lane.
A lap of 14.791 (60.85 mph) was good for fast time in qualifying for Nick Schmidt. The Dash was won by McKayla Adams while Jeremy Bredeson won the heat race.
Next week is Kids’ Night at Madison with all kids eleven and under admitted free plus there will be a candy scramble at intermission. See the Late Models, Sportsman, Bandits, and the Bandoleros in action. Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice at 5:00, qualifying at 6:15 and racing at 7:30.
