See It All at the Thursday Night Street Drags

It’s time for the August edition of the Thursday Night Street Drags this week at Madison International Speedway featuring bracket racing for just about every type of motorized vehicle. Cars, trucks, vans, cycles, electric vehicles, four wheelers and more will battle it out on the 300 foot dragstrip all for one purpose: To have fun.

There are more than twenty different brackets including a High Skool division and this week the debut of the Powder Puff bracket. Winners from most of the brackets are invited to compete in the Bumper to Bumper of Stoughton “Race of Champions” at the end of the night. More information about the Street Drags can be found at misracing.com

Competitors and fans love the Thursday night Street Drags. Long-time competitor Charlie sums it up pretty well. “I came here the first year not knowing what to expect. I’ve been here now for every event and four of my buddies from work are bringing their cars down too. It’s fun and it doesn’t cost much.” Jessica added, “I brought my kids to watch back in April and we’ve been at every event since. It’s affordable and fun plus we love the food.”

Pit gates open at 6:00 with practice and “grudge” matches at 6:30 and the first bracket taking the green at 7:30. Grandstand admission and pit passes are just $10.00 plus it’s only $10.00 per bracket entry. Vehicles are allowed to enter more than one bracket provided they meet the specifications.

The Speedway would like to welcome Conant Automotive of Stoughton who is sponsoring the SUV / AWD bracket.

The final street drag of the season will be on September 8th.

Say Cheese…Cheese Curd Cup is Back at Madison this Friday Night

It’s the second annual Cheese Curd Cup on the “Ring of Fire” presented by Morrison’s Auto this Friday night at Madison. If you like cheese, the Best of Wisconsin Shop will be here handing out samples while they last.

Five divisions will take center stage on the legendary “Ring of Fire” including the Midwest Dash Series, Hobby Stocks, Legends, Bandoleros, and the HSRA.

This will be the second appearance by the Midwest Dash Series in 2022 with Scott Ciesielski winning the June race on the half-mile. But this time the high flying four cylinder cars will take to the quarter mile. Karter Stark won last year’s Cheese Curd Cup.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the Hobby Stocks to the Ring of Fire. The Hobby Stocks have deep roots at Madison where they began as a weekly division in the late 1960’s. Although no longer a weekly series, people look forward to seeing the “big” cars on the “small” track where two and three wide racing has been the norm. Brandon Riedner was last year’s winner, but garnering a repeat win will be challenging with a talented group of drivers making their way to Madison.

The Legends are back for their second visit in 2022 with Kenny Storkson getting the victory in June. Last year, the winningest Legends driver in Madison history, Aaron Moyer, returned to pick up the win.

Cohen Henze is looking for a clean sweep in the Bandoleros this year at Madison after taking home wins in June and July. Last year Avery Linnerud captured the Cheese Curd Cup.

Mitchell Berg has won two races in the HSRA this season and also won last year’s CCC. The HSRA races at tracks throughout Wisconsin with high school students representing their high schools. HSRA will be racing double features on Friday night.

Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice at 5:00, qualifying at 6:15, and racing at 7:30. Grandstands open at 6:00.

Adult admission is just $12.00 with Seniors / Whelen Heroes $10.00, Students (12-17) $8.00, and kids 11 and under just $5.00. A Family Pass is just $30.00 and is good for two adults and four students / kids.
