This Friday at MIS: Weekly Racing, Faster Pastors, and Coin Drop

Faster Pastor Race Comes to MIS on Friday Night

Madison International Speedway will once again play host to the Faster Pastor race on Friday, July 27th as eight are pastors and chaplains take to the quarter-mile “Ring of Fire” to see who truly is the “fastest” pastor or chaplain.

The Faster Pastor race will be part of the weekly racing program that will feature the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models, Ho Chunk Gaming Madison Sportsman, and Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends.  Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice at 4:45, qualifying at 6:15 and racing to follow.  Friday night will also feature a big event for the kids as 1,000 coins and tokens will be poured on the track at intermission and on the count of three the kids will see how many they can pick up.

A very competitive field of pastors and chaplains has been put together for Friday night. Competing pastors and chaplains include Kyle Glenn (Door Creek), Matt Rust (Intervarsity), Steve Cook (Capital Chaplains), Mike Tess (Good Shepherd-Sun Prairie), Kevin Phillips (Monona Oaks), Kent Duvall (Grace Church- New Glarus), Todd Christopherson (Team Jesus Racing Ministry), and Eric Erickson (Lakeview -Stoughton).  The list is subject to change.

The event will race money for two area charities:  The River Food Pantry and the Salvation Army. The River Food Pantry and Salvation Army will be at MIS on Friday, July 27th when the Faster Pastor Race joins the weekly racing program.  Non-perishable food items will also be collected at the gate for the River Food Pantry.  They are a non-profit organization driven by volunteers and the faith based community to provide hot meals, groceries, clothing, and household items to Dane County families in need. Money raised for the Salvation Army will go towards relief projects in south central Wisconsin.

MIS Track Chaplain Todd Christopherson who helps coordinate the Faster Pastor event had this to say:  “It is a great event that the pastors and church really enjoy.  The pastors are always thrilled to drive a real race car and help to raise money for the charities.  The charities are grateful to partner with the track and receive canned goods and money for their cause.”

Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for The River Food Pantry.  Large barrels will be at the gate for fans to deposit their donations.

This year’s event will be sponsored by Pellitteri Waste Systems, Wayne Ace Bus and Limo Service, and MPI.  “We are very appreciative of the sponsors for this event,” added Christopherson.
