(Oregon, WI) James Swan held off Brandon Reichenberger to pick up the win in the Hougan Farms 30 for the Midwest Truck Series as part of the Howie Lettow Classic Night at Madison International Speedway. It was his first win of the season and his fourth career truck win here. Swan now has twenty-two wins in the Midwest Truck Series.
Derek Meyer and Tyler Noble showed the way to the green flag with Meyer getting out to the early lead. On the second lap Clay Curts worked to the inside of Noble for second with James Swan on the move and up to challenge Noble for the third position. This allowed both Meyer and Curts to pull away from the field. Swan would win the race for third on lap 5 with Brandon Reichenberger up to fourth on lap 6. On lap 7 Curts looked to take the lead from Meyer coming out of turn two only to spin and bring out the caution flag.
Meyer and Swan brought the field back to the green. Swan took the lead with Reichenberger up to second with Nicholas Van up to battle Meyer for third with Grant Griesbach into fifth. Van would take third with Griesbach and Meyer fighting for fourth. A spin on lap 11 brought out the second caution flag of the race.
Swan chose the outside with Reichenberger on the inside for the restart. Reichenberger took the lead only to have the caution flag wave on lap 12 for another spin. Reichenberger continued to lead following the restart but contact between two trucks behind the leaders brought out another yellow flag.
Reichenberger maintained his lead over Swan, Griesbach, and Van following the restart on lap 13 as the top four put some distance between themselves and the rest of the field. On lap 16 Van pulled alongside Griesbach for third and their side by side battle allowed the top two to increase their lead. That lead disappeared when two trucks got together and brought out another caution.
It was double file back to the green with 11 laps to go with Swan taking a slight lead from the outside followed by Van and Griesbach. With eight laps to go Swan was able to increase his lead to two lengths before a multi truck incident on the backstretch brought out yet another caution flag.
Swan jumped back out to the lead when the green flag waved and opened up a three length lead over Reichenberger. Reichenberger battled back to the tailgate of Swan only to see Swan pull away once again. Swan opened up his lead and raced his way to victory lane with Reichenberger holding off Van for second while Griesbach and Eugene Gregorich III completed the top five.
“It’s been a while,” said Swan from victory lane after he took time to thank all of the fans for coming out to the races tonight. He now has twenty-two wins in his Midwest Truck Series career to go along with his six series championships.
Heat winners were Tristan Swanson, Parker Cain, and James Lynch.
Fast time was set by Eugene Gregorich III with a lap of 19.037 (94.553 mph),
