The newly formed entry-level division at Madison International Speedway received a new name by fan vote via social media. The two week contest came down to a final five names which recorded nearly one thousand votes and in the end, Mike Doris’ entry of Six Shooters was victorious. The Made in America V-6 class is a throw back to stock car racing’s inception with simple rules allowing fun for all involved.
Doris will be the Grand Marshall of the evening when the Six Shooters take to the quarter mile ‘Ring of Fire’ for the first of six 2015 showings at MIS on Friday Night May 29. “We were trying to come up with the right name for this division and we decided to let our fans have some fun during the cold winter months. It was great to see everyone’s ideas as they were submitted and thanks to all of those that submitted names and voted to get the Six Shooters appropriately named.” Stated Madison International’s Gregg McKarns. “There is a lot of excitement for the Six Shooters as they are a simple car to build and compete with.”
A complete schedule of events will be finalized and released in the coming weeks. Cars will first hit the track on Sunday afternoon May 3 for the Joe Shear Classic 100 featuring the ARCA Midwest Tour, Quest Industrial Mid-American Stock Cars and Midwest Trucks. Weekly Friday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing will begin on May 15 when the NASCAR Late Models, Sportsman, Bandits and Legends take the green flag.
