(Oregon, WI) Shaun Scheel and Zack Riddle each took home a win in the Late Models while Dan Snyder picked up a clean sweep in the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz as part of the 2025 weekly racing season opener at Madison.
Other feature winners included Dylan Klinger and Jacob Mathison in the Roto Rooter 6Shooters while Waylon Robinson and Shane Strothman went home with wins in the Hobby Stocks.
Scheel Wheels to Victory Lane
Shaun Scheel held off Ryan Goldade to win the first 30 lap feature for the Late Models. It was his sixth career win at Madison.
Pat Richgels and Landry Potter brought the twenty-one car field to the green flag. After racing side by side for five laps, Richgels was able to clear Potter for the lead. An intense battle was taking place behind the leader with Shaun Scheel eventually getting second while Bobby Wilberg and Ryan Goldade were side by side by third.
On lap 11 Scheel slid by Richgels coming out of turn four to take the lead with Goldade moving up to second. Once again the battle was for third with Wilberg, Kelly Bires, and Zack Riddle all fighting for the spot. Bires would eventually take the third spot on lap 16.
Out front Scheel was increasing his lead with Goldade eight car lengths behind with ten laps to go. As the race progressed, Goldade had cut into Scheel’s lead by almost three tenths of a second. With five laps to go Riddle worked his way past Bires for third. Scheel was able to build up his advantage over Goldade and lead the rest of the way to pick up the win. Riddle finished third followed by Jake Gille and Wilberg in the caution free event.
Zack Riddle Returns to Victory Lane
Zack Riddle won the second 30 lap feature for the Late Models giving him forty wins for his career making him just two wins short of Rick Nelson’s forty two victories.
Brady Liddle and Richgels brought the field to the green flag in the second feature. Liddle took the early lead over Richgels with Mason Hellenbrand and Potter tussling for the third spot. A spin on lap 5 brought out the first caution flag.
Liddle continued to lead following the single file restart followed by Richgels, Hellenbrand, Wilberg, and Gille. On lap 9 Wilberg passed Hellenbrand for third before the caution flag came out three laps later for a stalled car. When the race continued Liddle continued to hold off Richgels followed now by Hellenbrand, Riddle, and Gille. On lap 16 Riddle powered his way by Hellenbrand to take third and set his sights on the top two.
A spin on lap 24 brought out the caution flag and bringing out the cone for the restart. Liddle chose to line up on the inside with Richgels electing to follow Liddle allowing Riddle to move up to the front row. It was a great restart for Riddle who went right to the lead before another caution flag waved when Richgels spun into the infield.
Jake Gille would now line up outside of Riddle for the restart with Liddle and Shaun Scheel in the second row. It was back to the lead for Riddle who opened up and six length lead over Gille as the two broke away from the field. Scheel held on to the third spot with Brent Edmunds up to fourth and Liddle to fifth. Riddle led the rest of the way to pick up the win with Scheel being placed second followed by Edmunds, Gille, and Liddle.
Quick time in qualifying was set by Zack Riddle with a lap of 18.591 (96.821 mph)
Dan Snyder Picks Up MISfitz Clean Sweep
You can’t ask for a better start to your racing season than what defending champion Dan Snyder experienced tonight as he swept the field for the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz. He now has six career feature wins at Madison in the division and seventeen overall.
Snyder edged Kenny Storkson at the stripe to win the first 20 lap feature for the MISfitz.
Kenny Storkson and Rick Coppernoll led the field to the green flag. Coppernoll had a small lead after the first lap before surrendering the top spot to Storkson. Dave Edwards moved to second followed by Dan Snyder. On lap 4 Snyder took the lead from the outside but Storkson battled back to take the lead on lap 9. Side by side they raced with Edwards and Tim Wondrash a couple of car lengths behind.
With five laps to go the leaders were still side by side. Snyder had a slight advantage with two laps to go and maintained that advantage when the white flag waved. At the stripe it was Snyder picking up the win by 0.81 seconds. Wondrash finished in third followed by Coppernoll and Edwards.
Snyder took the lead with one lap to go to win the second feature for the MISfitz.
Dave Edwards and Rick Coppernoll set the pace for the second feature. Edwards quickly jumped out to a big lead with Snyder doing his best to close the gap. On lap 8 Snyder looked to the outside of Edwards as the two raced side by side for the lead with Kenny Storkson in third.
With five laps to go Edwards went high coming out of turn three which allowed Snyder room on the inside but he was unable to take the lead. As the field took the white flag, Snyder was able to claim the top spot and lead the last lap to pick up the win. Edwards finished in second followed by Storkson, Coppernoll, and Kevin Anderson.
Snyder set fast time with a lap of 20.055 (89.753 mph).
Dylan Klinger and Jacob Mathison Top the Field in the 6Shooters
Dylan Klinger won the first 18 lap feature for the Roto Rooter 6Shooters. Klinger, the defending track champion, now has nine career feature wins.
Randy Grancorvitz took the early lead followed by Ozzie Osborn, Dylan Klinger, and Jason Van Hise. On lap 5 the caution came out for a spin and debris on the track. Grancorvitz brought the field back to the green. It didn’t take long to catch lapped traffic as a group of four cars broke away from the pack. On lap 7 Klinger passed Grancorvitz for the top spot with Jason Van Hise up to third followed by Osborn and Jacob Mathison.
Klinger weaved his way in and around lapped traffic to increase his lead. But Grancorvitz and company weren’t going to let him get away quite yet, but Klinger was up for the challenge and picked up the win. Grancorvitz and Osborn finished second and third.
Jacob Mathison won the second feature for the 6Shooters. It was his first-ever win in the division.
The twenty car field came to the green flag paced by a pair of first time 6Shooters, Lloyd Hawkins and Jared Marty. Hawkins took the early lead followed by Jon Graham, Dominic Lynch, and Matt Crowell. Three and four wide action allowed Dylan Klinger somehow to work his way to the front after starting in the rear of the field.
Jacob Mathison moved up to second before the caution flag waved for a spin on lap 9. Klinger brought the field back to the green with Mathison able to get by to take the lead. With four laps to go Mathison and Klinger stuck together coming out of turn four with Klinger slowing allowing Mathison to increase his lead which he maintained all the way to the checkered flag. Kenny Morris finished second followed by Jason Van Hise, Klinger, and Ozzie Osborn.
Hobby Stock Wins Go to Waylon Robinson and Shane Strothman
After winning twice in 2024 at Madison, Waylon Robinson continued his winning ways.
Tony Ciano took the early lead followed by Jake Mathison. On lap 12 fast qualifier Waylon Robinson moved into second place and then pulled to the outside of Ciano to take the lead. The pair ran side by side until three laps to go when Robinson took the lead from the outside and then opened up a six car length lead and raced his way to victory lane. Ciano finished second with Mathison in third.
Shane Strothman picked up his first win at Madison by winning the second twenty lap feature.
Strothman wasted no time in jumping out to a big lead in the second feature. The best race was taking place behind the leader between Elliott Hawkins, Jacob Mathison, and Waylon Robinson. Robinson would eventually take the second spot, but nobody would have enough time to catch Strothman who led wire to wire.
Waylon Robinson was fast qualifier with a lap of 14.224 (63.273 mph).
The Big 8 Late Models come to Madison next Friday night along with the Mid Am Racing Series, Legends, and Bandoleros. Free checkered flags for the first 500 kids.
