Seven Different Drivers Win Features at Madison

Story Image

It was Kids’ Night presented by Pellitteri Waste Systems at Madison with double features in four divisions plus a $1000 coin scramble presented by One Community Bank. Seven different drivers picked up feature wins in eight races.

Jacob Goede and Zack Riddle Take Top Honors in the NASCAR Late Models

Goede and Riddle each picked up $1000 for winning the features for the Late Models.

Jacob Goede took the lead on lap 6 and won the first 30 lap feature for the NASCAR Late Models and picked up $1000 for his efforts thanks to Scorezit Scorekeepers. It was his third career feature win at Madison.

Shaun Scheel and Kevin Knuese paced the NASCAR Late Models field to the green flag. Scheel took the early lead with Jacob Goede up to second followed by Jeff Holmgren Jr. On lap 5 Austin Nason moved past Holmgren Jr. for third while one lap later Goede passed Scheel for the lead. Nason moved past Scheel for second one lap later while Goede was increasing his lead out front. Behind the top two the racing was very competitive for third with Holmgren Jr., Riddle, and Scheel surviving the battle for spots in the top five.

Riddle moved past Holmgren Jr. for third on lap 14, but still had a lot of room to make up to catch the top two who were checking away from the field.

Goede continued to cruise out front while the rest of the field was hoping for the caution flag to come out. With one lap to go the battle was for second place where Riddle had caught Nason, but had to settle for the third spot as it was smooth sailing for Goede as he picked up the win.

“We got here late so we had a lot of work to do to get ready. I love this place even if it’s five hours from home,” said Goede.

Zack Riddle won the second 30 lap feature. It was his second feature win of the season and 22nd all-time in the Late Models at Madison.

The second feature found Shaun Scheel and Bobby Wilberg bringing the field to the green flag. Disaster struck for Jacob Goede whose car made heavy contact with the front stretch wall ending his night early. This led to a complete restart with Wilberg and Scheel running side by side for the first three laps before Scheel suddenly lost power with Wilberg taking the lead followed by Zack Riddle. The caution came out on lap 6 when two cars tangled coming out of turn two.

Wilberg brought the field back to the green flag with Riddle in hot pursuit. On lap 11 Riddle pulled to the inside of Wilberg going into turn one to take the lead and open up a three car length advantage. The caution flag came out on lap 14 when two cars made contact coming out of turn two.

Riddle continued to show the way out front once the green flag waved again and opened up a seven car length lead over Wilberg who was battling Rusty Hansen for the second position. Wilberg was able to keep the position, but this allowed Riddle to increase his lead.

With five laps to go Riddle’s advantage was more than ten car lengths while Hansen wasn’t going to let Wilberg out of his sights for the battle for second. With two laps to go Hansen found the room he needed to the inside of Wilberg as the two raced side by side until they made contact coming out of turn three allowing Hansen to move into second place. Hansen would spin coming out of turn two on the final lap to get back the second position, but nobody was able to catch Riddle who flew to victory lane.

“The car was really good on the long runs. We were able to hold our own on the short runs. The guys did a good job getting us ready for tonight,” said Riddle. Riddle will take $1000 for his efforts thanks to Powersource Racing Engines.

Bobby Wilberg set fast time with a lap of 18.587 (96.842 mph). Rusty Hansen made it back to back wins in the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash.

Ray Hellenbrand and Bobby Frisch Pick Up MISfitz Wins

Ray Hellenbrand and Bobby Frisch each picked up a win tonight in the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz. In four races this year there have now been four different winners in the MISfitz.

Defending champion Ray Hellenbrand won the first 20 lap feature.

Hellenbrand and Bobby Frisch comprised the front row with Hellenbrand taking the early lead over Frisch with Tim Wondrash and Mason Hellenbrand racing side by side for third place. Mason Hellenbrand took the third spot and the worked his way up to the outside of Frisch for second and getting the spot on lap 7.

With ten laps to go Mason Hellenbrand pulled to the inside of his dad, Ray Hellenbrand, but was unable to take the top spot. On lap 13 Rick Coppernoll moved past Frisch for the third spot and started to chase down the Hellenbrands. With two laps to go lapped traffic gave Ray Hellenbrand a slight challenge, but he was able to maneuver his way around and lead the rest of the way to victory lane holding off Mason Hellenbrand and Coppernoll.

“My son was coming up pretty fast so I had to hold him off,” said Hellenbrand from victory lane who indicated it would take patience in order to win the second feature.

Bobby Frisch won the second 20 lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz in his first night behind the wheel this year.

Mike Taylor and Tim Wondrash led the field to the green flag in the second feature with Bobby Frisch quickly pulling to the outside of Taylor to race for the lead. The pair raced side by side for the lead with Taylor holding a slight advantage with Mason Hellenbrand closing quickly in third.

Taylor and Frisch took turns leading the race while Mason Hellenbrand was right there in third. With 5 laps to go Frisch led by a nose, but Taylor got loose with two laps to go moving Mason Hellenbrand up to second who tried to close the gap on Frisch but was unable to do so as Frisch would take home the checkered flag.

“The car was right there,” said Frisch. “It was a good race with Mike Taylor. I appreciate Rick giving me the opportunity to drive tonight.”

Tyler Hansen was fastest in qualifying with a lap of 20.089 (89.601 mph). Rick Coppernoll was the winner in the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash.

Nick Schmidt Picks Up the Clean Sweep in the Bandits

Nick Schmidt picked up a clean sweep in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits.

Schmidt won the first 15 lap feature for the Bandits.

Nick Newton jumped out to the early lead in the first Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits feature. On lap 6 Schmidt moved to the outside of Newton to take the lead while Bart Brockmann went after Newton for the second spot. Schmidt was able to lead the rest of the way to pick up his second win of the season.

“I want to thank Pellitteri Waste Systems for supporting our class,” said Schmidt from victory lane.

Schmidt completed the clean sweep by picking up the second 15 lap feature which was his 19th career win at Madison.

Newton and Brockmann had the front row honors for the second main event. On lap 4 Schmidt pulled to the outside of Newton to take the lead and begin building a multi-car length advantage over the field. Newton and Brockmann put on a good show for the second spot with Brockmann winning the race for second, but this race belonged to Schmidt who picked up the clean sweep.

Fast time was Schmidt with a lap of 15.186 (59.265 mph). Schmidt was victorious in the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash for the second straight time.

Dylan Klinger and Ronnie Osborne are 6Shooter Winners

Dylan Klinger won the first 15 lap feature for the Roto Rooter 6Shooters.

Super Fan Jason Morgan and Dylan Klinger brought the field to the green flag. Klinger vaulted to an early lead with Sam Schulz and Chris Cowan up to second and third. On lap 4 Trevor Chilson was up to third followed by Eric Niemi and Ken Morris. At the halfway point, Klinger caught the tail end of the field and had to begin working through traffic. Not only did he do that, but he was able to actually increase his lead. Chilson moved into second place with five laps to go but with a lot of ground between himself and the leader. Klinger was able to maintain his lead to pick up the win.

“We put on a good show,” said Klinger from victory lane who mentioned that he has a total of only $200 invested in his car.

Ronnie Osborne won the second 15 lap feature for the Roto Rooter 6Shooters.

Captain Jason Morgan and Bob McKeown brought the eighteen car to the green flag in the second feature. McKeown took the early lead with Ronnie Osborne quickly up to second before the caution flag came out on lap 5 for a spin. Osborne took the lead on the restart with Ken Osborne and Bradley Lounsbury moving up to second and third.

The top three broke away from the pack and worked their way in, around, and through lapped traffic. Lounsbury made a thrilling three wide pass to take the lead going into turn one with two laps to go only to see Osborne fight his way back to the top spot and regain the lead to pick up the win.

“This is a lot of fun,” said Osborne who is no stranger to the Ring of Fire.

Racing continues on Friday, June 17th with double features in the NASCAR Late Models, Dave’s White Rock MISfitz, Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, and High School Racing Association. It’s a Father’s Night Special with all dads getting a choice of a free MIS gift.
