It’s the 2015 season opener at Madison International Speedway this Friday night, but it’s actually much more as a new era of racing begins at the legendary racing facility.
Gregg and Angie McKarns purchased the track from Terry Kunes in February and begin their first season as owners of the track where Gregg’s father, John, managed and promoted the speedway in the 1980’s.
They’ve also brought NASCAR to Madison as MIS is now part of the NASCAR Home Tracks program. This brings many opportunities to the race teams including a season point fund of $15,000 and the chance for drivers to compete for state, regional, and national honors.
Three weekly divisions will be featured in 2015 along with a variety of traveling series that will join the racing program. The NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models, Sportsman, and Bandits will be the primary divisions with the Late Models and Sportsman racing on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile while the Bandits battle on the challenging “Ring of Fire” quarter mile.
This Friday night will feature the three weekly divisions along with the Legends. Practice begins at 5:00 with qualifying at 6:30 and racing at 7:30. Adult fans can save $2.00 off admission by bringing an empty Pepsi product (limit one per admission). Fans can also take advantage of the new “Family Pricing” opportunity that is $30 for two adults and up to four kids.
