Bobby Frisch, Nick Schmidt and Ronnie Osborne Also Winners

Rusty Hansen (NASCAR Late Models), Bobby Frisch (Dave’s White Rock MISfitz), Nick Schmidt (Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits) and Ronnie Osborne (Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits) all took home checkered flags at Madison International Speedway on Friday night.

Hansen Tops the Late Models

Rusty Hansen won tonight’s 30 lap feature for the NASCAR Late Models.

Stephen Scheel and Zack Riddle led the field to the green flag. A spin on the first lap brought out an early caution flag. Following the restart, Stephen Scheel, Zack Riddle, and Shaun Scheel tried to break away from the pack. Behind the top three, Rusty Hansen and Brian Beale were fighting it out for fourth. On lap 10 Shaun Scheel cleared Riddle for second, but his brother Stephen was now six car lengths out front.

Behind the Scheel brothers a fight was taking place between Riddle and Hansen with Hansen getting the upper hand on lap 14. Out ahead of them, Shaun Scheel was starting to close the gap on his younger brother and with ten laps to go the lead was down to three car lengths.

Things were looking good for Stephen Scheel if the race continued to stay green as he continued to hold the top spot with ten laps to go. But two laps later the caution flag did come out when Kyle Taylor spun coming out of turn four.

On the restart Stephen Scheel elected to line up on the inside with Shaun Scheel lining up behind him in row two giving Hansen the outside of the first row. Stephen Scheel and Hansen battled it out side by side for a lap before Hansen gained the advantage.

Much to the delight of Hansen, the fight taking place behind him between Stephen Scheel and Brian Beale along with others allowed him to increase his lead and roll safely all the way to victory lane. Stephen Scheel, Shaun Scheel, Bobby Wilberg, and Dale Nottestad completed the top five.

Fast time was set by Dale Nottestad with a lap of 18.694 (mph). Rusty Hansen picked up the win in the Dash. John Baumeister Jr. and Zack Riddle were the heat race winners.

Bobby Frisch Best of the MISfitz

Bobby Frisch held off Scott Riedner to pick up the win in the 20 lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz. Thirteen MISfitz were on hand for their second-ever race in a division where drivers must maintain speeds so that their lap times are at twenty seconds or higher.

Rick Coppernoll started on the pole for the twenty lap feature for the MISfitz. Danny Church Jr. was up to challenge for the lead and on lap 7 the two got together bringing out the caution and relegating both to the rear of the field.

Bobby Frisch inherited the lead on the restart. Frisch was quickly joined by Scott Riedner and Scott Ascher. Frisch was able to maintain his position on the low side of the track which forced Riedner to go to the outside yet still stay below the twenty second mark.

It would all come down to the final lap when the leaders had to work their way around lapped traffic coming out of the final turn with Frisch coming out on top by less than a car length.

Scott Riedner wheeled his truck to a fast time with a lap of 20.093 (89.583 mph). Ray Hellenbrand took the checkered flag in the Dash. Heat races were won by Bobby Frisch and Danny Church Jr.

Nick Schmidt and Ronnie Osborne Pick Up Bandit Checkered Flags

Defending track champion Nick Schmidt and last season’s Rookie of the Year Ronnie Osborne each won a 25 lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits.

Rich Schinderling took the early lead in the first 25 lap feature for the Bandits, but quickly had all he could handle from Dave Schmidt who took the lead four laps in as the two traded paint while racing side by side. The caution flag would come out on lap 7 when Schinderling’s car slowed on the front stretch.

Schmidt powered his way to a five car length lead after the race went green again. Up to challenge him was Nick Schmidt. With ten laps to go the lead was down to a car length and three laps later the Schmidts were running side by side. With five laps to go Nick Schmidt took over the top spot and opened up a sizeable lead on his way to victory lane. Dave Schmidt, Brandon Junget, Jeremy Bredeson, and Ronnie Osborne rounded out the top five.

Lyle Phillips jumped out to the early lead in the second feature for the Bandits with Bart Brockmann and Ronnie Osborne running second and third. Phillips was able to open up a sizeable lead as the laps ticked away. At the half-way point Osborne was beginning to cut into Phillips’ lead. With eight laps to go the lead was down to less than two car lengths.

Osborne was doing everything he could do to get to the outside of Phillips. With four laps to go Osborne was on Phillips’ rear bumper as the two raced side by side. What was shaping up to be a classic finish failed to materialize when the caution flag came out for a spin.

Phillips and Osborne lined up side by side on the restart with the second row consisting of Brockmann and Nick Schmidt. The race would go down to the final lap when Osborne was able to edge his way to the front on the final turn to pick up the victory. Phillips finished second followed by Nick Schmidt, Dave Schmidt, and Brockmann.

Dave Schmidt set a new track record with a lap of 14.687 (61.279 mph). The Dash winner was Brandon Junget.
