Oregon, WI- With auto racing on-hold for the time being, Madison International Speedway owners Gregg and Angie McKarns have had discussions with area high schools in regards to hosting graduation ceremonies at the family owned and operated 49.8 acre facility. While awaiting further direction following the upcoming Rutland Town Board meeting on Tuesday night, announcements from Daytona International Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway regarding hosting similar commencement activities has indicated the need.

“The idea came to be two weeks ago, so far we have had discussions with two schools and are hopeful that once we are given the green light, additional schools will consider providing this for their graduates.” Noted Angie McKarns. “Our son is two years away from wearing a cap and gown, and our daughter will be going into high school in just over a year. We feel this is something communities can make a reality for their students.”

A variety of logistics have been discussed in regards to current and proposed social distancing measures, though those will be finalized as the graduation ceremonies approach. These include but are not limited to in-vehicle viewership, student separation that still allows for a class photo, on-site FM radio broadcasts, potential video boards, diploma distribution, sanitation and custom facility decoration.
