New Brackets Announced for Madison’s Thursday Night Street Drags

Oregon, WI- Six new brackets have been added to the popular Thursday Night Street Drags at Madison International Speedway. The final event of the 2019 season which features a multitude of different cars competing in double elimination 300 foot drag races, will be held on Thursday September 12. Joining popular brackets such as Detroit Iron and the Four Wheel Drive Diesel Class will be six new classes, some all new and some merging previous bracket classes into new categories providing additional brand rivalry. Last September saw a record 342 registrants for the Thursday Night Street Drags at MIS.

The first group of classes will now find newer domestic name plate vehicles including Mustangs, Corvettes, modern muscle cars and domestic models from the 1980’s and 1990’s grouped into one of three Domestic Performance Classes. The all new Domestic Performance Street, Domestic Performance 400 and Domestic Performance 550+ will group cars by like horsepower with the street and 400 brackets allowing DOT tires only and the 550+ allowing either street or drag tires. “This should allow more car enthusiasts to compete and have fun. Whether you have a Monte Carlo, a Mustang or a Hellcat, these new brackets will allow you to go up against other makes of like power” stated MIS co-owner Gregg McKarns. “We wanted to make some adjustments so we can keep this event fresh and new and possibly apply what we learn to other brackets down the road.”

Three all new brackets this September will be the Electric Power, Speedy SUV/AWD and Euro Performance. With Tesla’s starting to become common in the greater Madison Market and with two Tesla’s competing and winning the Bumper to Bumper Finale in August, the electric powered class will wrangle that new technology into a bracket of their own. Likewise, with more and more SUV and AWD vehicles looking to partake in the fun, the Speedy SUV/AWD bracket becomes a landing spot for those. The sixth and final new bracket is the Euro Performance class for European name plates such as Mercedes and BMW.

Registration will open at 6pm on Thursday September 12 with Trial Runs beginning at 6:30pm and Brackets getting underway at 7:30pm. Pit passes are $10, bracket registration is $10 with no additional registration fee for the High School Bracket or Shine ‘N Show Contest. Those under the age of 18 wishing to enter the pit area will need to have a Minor’s Release Form completed by their guardians, available at the pit gate or BY CLICKING HERE.

Spectator gates open at 6:30 with adult tickets costing $10, ages 11 and under will be admitted into the grandstands at no cost. Madison International Speedway is located at 1122 Sunrise Road in Oregon, WI. Call the Speedway Box Office at 608-835-9700 or visit www.misracing.com for additional information.
