Here they come…the 410 Winged Sprint Cars from the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series return to Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile this Friday night for the America’s Winged Tailgate Party. These “rockets” will be turning laps in the 15-16 second range with speeds pushing 140 mph! These are the fastest cars you will see on track all season. Drivers from five states are expected.
Joining the racing program will be the Midwest Truck Series, Great Northern Sportsman Series, and Midwest Dash Series. This will be the third visit by the Trucks this year with James Swan and Todd Kluever notching wins earlier this season. The Great Northern Sportsman and Midwest Dash will be making their only appearance of the year at Madison. Qualifying will begin at 6:15 PM with racing slated for 7:30 PM.
Brian Gerster of Fishers, Indiana, picked up the win last year over Jimmy McCune by 0.993 seconds in the 30 lap main event. He also set fast time with a trip of 14.710 (122+mph). McCune of Toledo, Ohio, took home the checkered flag in 2016. Gerster holds the track record for the series while David Byrne set the fastest lap ever at Madison last year in the Mad Town Meltdown with a mark of 14.624.
The Madison event will be the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series’ eight race of the 2018 season. Taking home checkered flags in the first seven events include Jimmy McCune- Anderson Speedway, Bronzie Lawson IV- Hickory Motor Speedway, Kody Swanson-Anderson Speedway, Jimmy McCune- Berlin Raceway, Aaron Pierce- Owosso Speedway, Brian Gerster- Birch Run Speedway, and Jimmy McCune- Midvale Speedway.
Fueled by his three features win this season, Jimmy McCune leads the series championship chase with 503 points. He’s followed by his nephew Anthony McCune 459, Charlie Schultz 436, Aaron Pierce 403, Tom Jewell 402, Adam Biltz 380, Jerry Caryer 336, Jeff Bloom 273, Joe Speakman 270, Bronzie Lawson IV 252, and Bobby Santos III 239.
Pit gates will open at 3:30 PM followed by practice at 5:00 PM. The grandstands open at 6:00 PM. Fans can enjoy $1.00 Klement’s Hot Dogs and $2.00 cans of Busch Light as part of the America’s Winged Tailgate Party.
