MIS Goes Green This Sunday Afternoon

Free Admission for Public Safety Personnel

By John Wells

The start of the weekly racing season at Madison International Speedway is upon us as the engines fire up and the green flag waves on Sunday, May 27th as part of Salute to Public Safety Day presented by Pepsi Cola of Madison.  All police officers, fire fighters, and emergency medical personnel will be admitted free with proof of active service.

“We are taking time to honor the men and women who risk their lives daily in order to save and protect us,” said MIS Marketing Manager Jason Tyler.  “We hope the public safety people come out and join us for a great day of racing.”

A great day of racing it will be! Three weekly divisions will be in action for the first points event of the 2012 season.  The Rockweiler Insulation Late Models and Ho Chunk Gaming Madison Sportsman will be racing around Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile while the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends take on the Ring of Fire.  Pit gates open at 10:00 AM with the grandstands opening at 11:00 AM.  Qualifying begins at 1:00 PM with racing to follow.

“The guys are ready to get out here and race.  We’ve had several practice sessions for them, but it just isn’t the same,” said MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg.  “The point races are going to be wide open this year.  We’re going to have a lot of new faces so it’s going to be exciting to see how it all plays out.”

There will also be many family friendly opportunities for the fans on opening day as well as all season.  A brand new Rainbow Play System has been installed near turn one and the family section has been relocated there as well.  Opening day will also feature fire truck rides for the kids.  “This place is very family oriented and we know fans are going to like the changes we have made,” said Tyler.  Kids will also be able to join the Quest Industrial Turn One Kids’ Club to take advantage of promotional opportunities all season long.

Cosmetic changes have been made throughout the facility from a brand new sound system, painting, general repairs to a new victory lane complete with flowers and plantings.

Tyler added, “We want everyone to come out and have fun.  That’s the bottom line.  We’ve made a lot of changes to make this place the best it can be and we are still planning to do more.  We’ve added some new food choices too so all of your senses will experience something new in 2012

Weekly racing at MIS will return to its regular Friday night slot beginning on June 1st and continuing until August 17th.
