MIS Fall Classic Set for Sunday, September 23rd

Fall Classic Takes on a New Look at MIS

By John Wells

The MIS Fall Classic will take on a new look in 2012, but that doesn’t mean there will be any shortage of excitement on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile and the Ring of Fire.   This year’s event will be held on Sunday, September 23rd.

Four divisions will take to the track at this year’s classic:  Super Late Models, International Four Cylinders, Legends, and Central States Super Cups.  The Super Late Models and International Four Cylinders will compete on the half-mile while the Legends and Super Cups battle it out on the quarter-mile.  Also in action will be the One on One Street Drags who will race on the small track.

Earlier this season twenty-four drivers qualified for the Super Late Model Race of Champions as part of the Triple Crown Challenge.  A total of six cars will transfer out of the two, fifteen lap qualifying races.  In case any of the automatic qualifiers do not race at the Classic more drivers will transfer to the feature.

There will be two fifty lap features with the overall finishing order determined by combined finishes in the two races.  The overall winner will receive $3000 with second place taking home $2000 and third place collecting $1500.  Cars that start both features are guaranteed at least $400.  Drivers will receive a $100 bonus for each of the first three Triple Crown events they raced at Madison.  However, some restrictions will apply.

Late Model teams from the region are welcome to compete in the Super Late Model event but need to contact Dave Oswald at 608.839.5507 for more information.

The International Four Cylinders will follow Jefferson rules.  American Short Track cars may also be eligible but are asked to contact Dave Oswald for more information.  The International division will run a pair of eight lap qualifying heats and then battle it out in a twenty lap feature.

The Ring of Fire will light up for the Legends who will also run a pair of ten lap qualifying heats and then compete in a thirty lap feature.  The Super Cups will also run two qualifying heats and a feature.

The One on One Street Drags will bring the 2012 season to a close at MIS with elimination style racing on the Ring of Fire.

Pit gates for Sunday, September 23rd will open at 10:00 AM with practice at 11:30 AM, qualifying at 1:15 PM, opening ceremonies at 2:00 PM with racing to follow.

On Saturday, September 22nd MIS will be hosting an open practice session from Noon – 5:00 PM.
