McCune, Goldade, DeLacy and Moyer Big Winners at Madison Tonight

Jimmy McCune made the most of his trip to Madison from Ohio by winning the Must See 410 Sprint Cars feature tonight.  Ryan Goldade (Dave’s White Rock Sportsman), Brandon DeLacy (Pellittteri Waste Systems Bandits), and Aaron Moyer (Legends) were also winners.

Jimmy McCune Sprints to Victory Lane

One of the most anticipated racing events of the season saw Jimmy McCune of Toledo, Ohio, win the 30 lap feature for the Must See 410 Sprint Cars.  This was McCune’s second win at Madison as he took the checkered flag back in 2002.

Jason Cox and Brad Wyatt paced the field to the green flag with Cox sprinting out to the lead followed by Wyatt, David Byrne, Jimmy McCune, and Jacob Wilson.  By lap 7 Cox had caught the tail end of the field and narrowly escaped contact with Kris Leming.

The caution flag came out on lap 9 for debris in turn two.

On the restart Cox was able to maintain his lead with Byrne up to second followed by McCune, Wilson, and Wyatt.  Trouble came for both Wilson and Byrne as mechanical problems sent them both to the infield on laps 16 and 18.

Cox again worked his way through lapped traffic with McCune closing quickly.  On lap 22 McCune powered his way past Cox coming down the front shoot to take the lead.  McCune quickly checked away from the field and cruised to victory lane.  Cox finished second followed by Jerry Caryer, Sierra Jackson, and Wyatt.

“We struggled with the car all night.  I really have to credit my guys for their work,” said McCune.

In his first appearance ever at Madison, Jacob Wilson set fast time with a lap of 14.720 (122.283 mph).  Heat races were won by Jason Cox and Sierra Jackson.

Goldade Holds Off Hansberry for Checkered Flag

Ryan Goldade won his second feature of the season by holding off Robert Hansberry Jr. to win the 20 lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman.

Mike Taylor started on the pole and led the first lap before Goldade worked his way to the leader’s inside coming out of turn three on lap 2 to take the point.

Hansberry Jr. was able to move into second when he passed Taylor on lap 3.

The two quickly checked away from the field with Goldade holding off every attempt by Hansberry Jr. to maintain the lead.  Steve Anderson tried to join the mix, but had too much ground to make up.

With one lap to go, Hansberry Jr. gave it one final shot, but Goldade had an answer for him and picked up the win.

“I want to thank my crew for putting up with me,” said Goldade from victory lane. “It was a good race with Robert.”

Hansberry Jr. set fast time with a lap of 19.783 (90.987 mph).  Goldade won both the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash and heat race.

DeLacy Declared Winner in the Bandits

It may have appeared that David Schmidt won the 20 lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, but unfortunately he failed post race inspection thus giving the win to Brandon DeLacy.

Before the start of the feature the crowd and drivers remembered fellow competitor Jovanni DiMaggio who passed away in May.

Chris Tolliver took the early lead away from McKayla Adams.  On lap 3 David Schmidt moved past Adams for second and started to hunt down Tolliver.  Tolliver was able to hold strong on the inside forcing Schmidt to go to the outside.  As the two battled for the lead, Brandon DeLacy was up to join the mix followed by James Junget.

Schmidt found the room he needed on lap 10 and passed Tolliver for the lead coming out of turn four.  One lap later DeLacy moved into second and was closing fast on Schmidt.

On lap 15 DeLacy looked to be making his move to the inside when Schmidt slammed the door going into turn one.  The battle continued for three more laps until the caution flag came out for a spin.

Schmidt got a great restart over DeLacy and took a two car length lead.  But DeLacy wasn’t about to give up as he worked his way back only to come up just short at the stripe.

But the good news didn’t last long for Schmidt who failed post race inspection and was disqualified with all feature finishers moving up one position.

Fast qualifier was DeLacy with a lap of 15.085. Dickson won the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash.  Heat races were won by Dan Lerdahl and Dickson.

Moyer Back in Victory Lane at Madison

Aaron Moyer won his eighteenth career feature at Madison by topping the nine car Legends field in their first visit of 2016.

Derek Mueller and Blaze Watters brought the field to the green flag before they made contact on lap 2 bringing out the caution.

Riley Stenjem inherited the lead on the restart with Moyer quickly up to challenge.  Stenjem spun on lap 3 bringing out the caution and giving the lead to Moyer.

From there it was all Moyer who held off Jacob Nottestad to pick up the win.  Tony Moyer, Stenjem, and Kyle Vergata rounded out the top five.

“I want to thank all the fans for coming out.  This one’s for my Grandpa who passed away this week,” said Moyer.

Aaron Moyer set fast time with a mark of 13.807 on the Ring of Fire.  Heat races were won by Tony Moyer and Riley Stenjem.

The next event at Madison will be the One on One Street Drags on Thursday, June 9th with bracket racing beginning at 7:30 preceded by practice and grudge racing at 6:30.

Racing continues on Friday, June 10th with Round One of the Badgerland Challenge featuring the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models, Dave’s White Rock Sportsman, Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, and 6Shooters.  Practice begins at 5:00, qualifying at 6:15, and racing at 7:30.
