Make Way for the Trucks and Legends

Make Way for the Midwest Super Trucks and Legends

by John Wells

The 2013 racing season at Madison International Speedway will feature a variety of super events and the Midwest Super Trucks and Legends will be part of the excitement.

“We feel that the trucks and the Legends have put on great races at Madison over the years.  It’s very competitive out there and the fans love the show these guys put on,” said MIS Business / Marketing Manager Jason Tyler.

The Midwest Super Trucks got their start at Madison International Speedway back in 1997 when Jerry and Kevin Fillner introduced the series to Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile.

“There is a lot of interest in the trucks and we saw good numbers in the races we had last year,” said Tyler.  The series will also have a local presence with Jerry and John Wood from Sun Prairie.

The trucks will be in action at MIS on Sunday, June 16th, Sunday, July 14th, Sunday, July 28th, and Sunday, September 8th along with two ARCA SCAG Power Equipment Midwest Truck events on Friday, June 28th and Sunday, August 11th.

The Legends have been part of the weekly racing program at Madison since 2007 and will once again be competing on the “Ring of Fire.”  Defending track champion is Andy Jones of Gurnee, Illinois.

The move to Sunday afternoon racing should give more Legends teams an opportunity to travel to MIS.  “We are hoping we can attract more teams from our neighboring states to join us this year.  A lot of the guys had to take off work on Fridays to make the trip.  This will lighten their load a little bit and they will get out of here in the late afternoon,” said Tyler.

The Legends will be racing on Sunday, May 5th with a regional qualifier plus Sunday, June 16th, Sunday, July 14th, Sunday, July 28th, Sunday, August 11th, and Sunday, September 8th.

Point standings will be kept for the Midwest Super Trucks and Legends with all races at Madison counting for points and a track championship.

MIS will also be hosting an IMCA Vintage Series event as part of Salute to America Night on Friday, June 28th.  They will join the Big 8 Late Models and  ARCA Midwest Trucks on the racing program.
