Oregon, WI (July 18, 2025)

It was a perfect night for racing at Madison with eight feature races on the program and amazing weather.

Seven different drivers took home checkered flags with Landry Potter and Shaun Scheel (Late Models), Phil Speciale and Nick Schneider (MISfitz), Jason Van Hise and Randy Grancorvitz (6Shooters, and Kennedy Krueger (HSRA) taking the honors.

Potter Holds Off Wilberg for Late Model Win

Landry Potter won the first 30 lap feature for the Late Models. It was his first Late Model win at Madison.

Jerry Stafford and Brady Liddle paced the field to the green flag.  It was excitement from the start as Stafford got loose coming to the green flag which allowed Landry Potter to take the lead on the first lap.  Stephen Scheel moved past Liddle for second on lap 2 with a spin on lap 3 bringing out the first caution of the race.

The field came back to the green led by Potter with Stephen Scheel and Carter Nilson running second and third followed by Shaun Scheel and Bobby Wilberg.  Wilberg raced past Shaun Scheel for fourth on lap 6.  A spin on lap 9 brought out the caution flag for the second time.  Once again, Potter led the way to the green flag and opened up a six car length lead over Stephen Scheel as the top five were breaking away from the field at the half-way point.

On lap 17 Shaun Scheel squeezed his way past Wilberg to take fourth while out front Stephen Scheel and Nilson were closing the gap on Potter.  A backstretch spin on lap 24 brought out the caution flag and the restart cone. Potter chose the inside with Stephen Scheel on the outside followed by Nilson and Shaun Scheel in row two with Wilberg and Riley Stenjem in the third row.

Potter was able to maintain his lead over Stephen Scheel as things got crazy behind him as several of the top cars stacked up coming out of turn three bringing out another caution flag.

This time the restart would come with five laps to go with Potter and Nilson choosing to line up on the inside which allowed Bobby Wilberg to move up to the outside of the front row.  Lining up next to Nilson was Stenjem with Brent Edmunds and Zack Riddle in the third row.

Potter was able to maintain his lead for one lap before the caution flag waved again.  Once again Potter and Wilberg would bring the field back to the green flag.  The final laps became a Potter-Wilberg shootout with Potter able to hang on for the win over Wilberg by just 0.261 seconds followed by Nilson, Riddle and Stenjem.

“After a few weeks off this was a completely new set up for us, “said Potter.  “It feels good.”

It’s Wire to Wire for Shaun Scheel

Shaun Scheel won the second 30 lap feature for the Late Models.

Scheel and Rick Corso led the field to the green and Scheel wasted no time opening up a multi-car lead from the start with Morgan Schissel moving past Corso for second followed by Brady Liddle and Riley Stenjem.

On lap 6 Carter Nilson broke into the top five.  On lap 8 Corso retook the second spot followed by Stenjem, Nilson, and Liddle.  After ten laps Scheel had a three second lead over Corso and the rest of the field. Stenjem raced past Corso for second on lap 12 with Nilson and Liddle still running fourth and fifth.

The cars of Corso and Nilson made contact on lap 15 which brought out the caution flag and put an end to Scheel’s 3.5 second lead. The cone came out for the restart with Scheel and Stenjem in the first row followed by Liddle and Wilberg.

Scheel was able to regain his lead followed by Stenjem, Wilberg, Schissel and Liddle. On lap 20 Brent Edmunds broke into the top five before the caution flag came out for a spin. Once again Scheel and Stenjem chose the front row followed by Wilberg and Edmunds.

It was a great restart for Scheel who was able to get away from Stenjem while Edmunds passed Schissel for third. With seven laps to go Corso made heavy contact with the wall in turn three bringing out the red flag.

On the restart Scheel and Brent Edmunds showed the way back to the green flag. Scheel was able to take a slight lead, but Schissel was able to get by Edmunds for second and began chasing down the leader. But Scheel was too strong and held off Schissel for the win with Edmunds, Riddle, and Landry Potter rounding out the top five.

It was Scheel’s second win of the season and he now goes into the final points night on August 16th as the point leader. He now has seven career wins placing him in the top 25 all-time in the division.

For the second event in a row, Brent Edmunds was the fast qualifier with a lap of 18.759 (95.954 mph).

Phil Speciale and Nick Schneider are Big Winners in the MISfitz

Their first trips to Madison in 2025 were well worth it as Phil Speciale and Nick Schneider both picked up wins.

Driving his Mid Am car, Phil Speciale won the first 20 lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz.  The win was his first-ever at Madison and it earned him the $200 Big Rig bonus money.

The largest field of MISfitz (18) in track history came to the green flag paced by Kyle Wahlgren and Phil Speciale.  Speciale jumped out to the early advantage followed by Wahlgren and Wyatt Kraiss.  On lap 3, Dave Edwards moved past Wahlgren for third.  Walhgren then had his hands full with Nick Schneider trying to hang on to fourth.  A spin back in the pack brought out the caution flag on lap 7.

Speciale brought the single file field back to green and jumped back out to a five car advantage.  Edwards moved up to second followed by Wahlgren, Schneider and Kraiss. On lap 11 Schneider moved past Wahlgren to take the third position. Out front Speciale had increased his lead over Edwards to eight lengths with five laps to go.  Edwards was closing the gap, but Speciale was just too strong as he picked up the win.  Edwards was second followed by Schneider, Wahlgren, and Kraiss.

“I’ve got to thank my crew for this one.  They work their butts off,” said Speciale from victory lane.

Nick Schneider piloted his 602 Late Model to victory lane in the second 20 lap feature.

Dan Calhoun and Mike Lange had the honors of bringing the field to the green flag. Calhoun jumped out to the lead followed by Lange and Dan Snyder. On lap 3 Snyder gained a slight advantage over Lange to take second with Nick Schneider taking third a lap later.  Kenny Storkson passed Lange for fourth on lap 8.

Two laps later, Schneider moved past Snyder for second with Kenny Storkson closing fast in fourth.  Schneider was putting heavy pressure on Calhoun just before the caution flag waved for a spin and possible fluid on the track.

Double file restart time found Calhoun on the inside and Schneider on the outside of the first row with Snyder and Storkson in the second row. Schneider took the lead over Calhoun and Snyder.  With three laps to go Snyder pulled into the infield moving Kyle Wahlgren up to third.  On the final lap a spin in turn two brought out the caution flag thus ending the race with Schneider taking the win.  Calhoun finished second followed by Wahlgren, Speciale, and Storkson.

“This is just incredible,” said Schneider from victory lane.  It was his first appearance of the season and his second career win at Madison.

Fast qualifier was Dan Snyder with a lap of 20.003 (89.987 mph)

6Shooter Wins Go to Jason Van Hise and Randy Grancorvitz

Jason Van Hise and Randy Grancorvitz each took home wins tonight.

Van Hise was declared the winner in the first 18 lap feature for the Roto Rooter 6Shooters.

Kenny Morris took the early lead with Kayden Ellis and Gene Robbins side by side for second.  Noah Karr was up to fourth followed by hard charging Jason Van Hise and Nolan McNallie.  Morris built up a sizeable lead over the field by the half way mark with Robbins in second followed by Van Hise.  Van Hise was able to pass Robbins for second with five laps to go with a lot of ground to close to catch the leader.

Morris worked his way through lapped traffic which slowed him down enough to allow Van Hise to close the gap.  On the final lap, Van Hise did everything he could to catch Morris but ran out of time.

Unfortunately for Morris, his car was disqualified following post race inspection which then awarded Van Hise with his first win at Madison.

Randy Grancorvitz picked up the win in the second 6Shooters feature.

The twenty car field came to the green led by Captain Jason Morgan and David Killerlain , but before one lap was completed Grancorvitz took the lead followed by Josh Morris, Dominic Lynch, and Dylan Klinger. A spin brought out the caution flag on the second lap.

Grancorvitz continued to lead with Klinger quickly up to third behind Killerlain and moved into second on lap 6.  Out front Grancorvitz has a sizeable lead working his way around lapped traffic.  On lap 9 Jason Van Hise moved up to second.  Both Klinger and Van Hise were quickly closing on Grancorvitz and with three laps to go the lead was down to one length.

With one lap to go a pile up in turn one brought out the caution flag as well as the checkered flag sending Grancorvitz to victory lane.  Klinger finished second followed by Van Hise, Jacob Mathison, and Killerlain.

It was his first win of the season and third for his career at Madison.

Three for Three for Kennedy Krueger

Kennedy Krueger won both features for the Finishline Towing HSRA tonight giving him three in a row for the year.

Colin McKeown and Jacob Koppers paced the field to the green flag in the first feature with Koppers quickly jumping out to the lead.  Kennedy Krueger passed McKeown for second on lap 5 and set his sights on Koppers.  On lap 9 Krueger caught and passed Koppers to take the lead with Peyton Payne a distant third.   Koppers did his best to keep Krueger in his sights, but Krueger had clear sailing and led the rest of the way to pick up the win.

Krueger also won the second 15 lap feature.

Colin McKeown and Peton Payne led the field to the green flag in the second feature, but it took Kennedy Krueger only two laps to take the lead and race away from the field.  Koppers and Payne were fighting it out for second place racing side by side for many laps before Koppers took the spot.

A caution flag negated Krueger’s big lead, but after a lengthy clean up, Krueger certainly didn’t lose any speed as he continued his lead over Koppers while McKeown and Payne were battling it out for third.  Kruger was too fast for the field tonight as he took home the win followed by Koppers, McKeown, and Payne.

Krueger now has six career wins at Madison tying him with Mitchell Berg for the all-time lead.

Next Friday night (July 25th) it’s the Howie Lettow Classic 100 for the ASA Midwest Tour along with the Midwest Truck Series.  For more info checkout our website at misracing.com.
