Kids’ Night and Double Features this Friday at Madison

Story Image

Bring the kids to Madison International Speedway this Friday for Fink’s Paving of Mt. Horeb Kids’ Night where all children 11 and under will be admitted free. The young fans will also have an opportunity to participate in the annual “Candy Scramble” on track during intermission. The night belongs to the kids this Friday.

On-track action will be highlighted by double features in four divisions: NASCAR Late Models, Dave’s White Rock MISfitz, Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, and the Bandoleros. Like the weather, point races are starting to heat up so there’s much at stake with twin features this week.

Fans will also have the opportunity to meet Rich Bickle Jr. who will be on hand signing his book, Barnyard to Brickyard- The Rich Bickle Story. Copies will be available for $20.00.

The NASCAR Late Models have five races in the books so far this season with five different winners: John Baumeister Jr., Brian Beale, Rusty Hansen, Bobby Wilberg, and Zack Riddle. Multi-time champion Bobby Wilberg is the current point leader with 530 followed by Dale Nottestad (494), Zack Riddle (493), John Baumeister Jr. (478) and Rusty Hansen (443). A clean sweep on Friday would mean 215 points so what happens on the track this week will play a big part in the overall championship standings.

The Dave’s White Rock MISfitz find the modified of Dave Edwards showing the way with 501 points. Ray Hellenbrand (487), Gary Hellenbrand (444), Bryan Hellenbrand (436), and Mike Taylor (433) complete the top five. Ironically, Gary Hellenbrand is the only driver amongst the top five who has won a feature this season. Bobby Frisch (2), Rick Coppernoll, and Tyler Hansen have also picked up checkered flags.

In the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, the top four drivers in the standings are separated by just nineteen points. Defending champion Nick Schmidt is leading with 512 points just one more than Jeremy Bredeson. Dave Schmidt (494), Brandon Junget (493), and Ronnie Osborne (445) complete the top five.

Bobby Wilberg, Dave Edwards, and Jeremy Bredeson lead their respective divisions in the Dash Series.

Joining the racing program will be the Bandoleros, the fastest kids on wheels, who will be making their second appearance of the 2019 season. Alex Hartwig topped a twenty-one car field back on June 7th.

Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice at 5:00, qualifying at 6:15, and racing at 7:30. Adult admission is $14.00 / Seniors and Whelen Heroes $12.00 / Students 12-17 $8.00 / Kids 11 and under are free.

Jerry Brickner of Wausau won the first truck race at Madison back in May when an all-time high number of trucks (27) at Madison came to battle it out.The Midwest Truck Series was born at Madison in 1997 and this event will be the series’ 184th event on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile with more than 40 different drivers picking up wins.

You’ve seen some of the 602 Late Models in our MISfitz division, but now they’ll have their own event on the half-mile. The Hobby Stocks take to the Ring of Fire in what is certain to be exciting side by side racing as it has been the past several years. The Illini Midgets have been at Madison in previous years and will be making their only appearance of the 2019 season.

Growing in numbers each time out, the Roto Rooter 6Shooters will also bring their show to the quarter mile. This is a true entry level division with race ready cars for as cheap as $500-$600. If you’ve ever wanted to race then this is your opportunity.
