Kevin Eggert Discovers MIS
by John Wells
Kevin Eggert of Appleton, Wisconsin, will bring a variety of racing experience with him when he comes to compete in this year’s Super Late Model Triple Crown Challenge at Madison International Speedway. His biggest challenge may be finding the track.
“I’ve never raced at MIS. In fact, I’ve never even seen the place,” said Eggert. “My goal this season is to travel to different tracks and race competitively in the ARCA Midwest Tour and ARCA CRA Super Series too.”
Eggert is beginning his eighteenth year in racing this season and comes to the track with a wide variety of experience.
He began his racing career in 1996 while he was still a student at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. “My dad raced when I was younger so I always had an interest in racing,” he added. He got his start in a mini-sprint at Beaver Dam Raceway where he won his first race in his rookie season.
From there Eggert moved to Badger Midgets, USAC Midgets, USAC Sprint Cars, and dirt late models before making the jump to asphalt in 2009. Success has followed him from division to division not only with trips to victory lane but being recognized as rookie of the year in each division as well.
His first win in a Super Late Model came at Wisconsin International Raceway in 2009 when he took the checkered flag in the “Blue” race. From there he went on to win the next three out of five races he entered carrying over into 2010.
It is Eggert’s dad that continues to be his biggest supporter. “My dad has been supportive ever since I started racing and continues to do so today.”
Sponsors for Eggert in 2013 are Sapphires Gentlemen’s Club, Luigi’s Pizza, and Behling Racing.
Fans can see the #98 car in action this summer at MIS as part of the Super Late Model Triple Crown Challenge.
