Thoma, Phillips, Spiegel and Chilson Also Go Home Winners

John Beale won the Badgerland Challenge for the Late Models while Jason Thoma (Sportsman), Lyle Phillips (Bandits), Tyler Spiegel (6Shooters), and Trevor Chilson (6Shooters) also took home checkered flags.  The fans were also treated to the world famous Doug Rose and his Green Mamba Jet Car that incinerated a car.

Beale is the Real Deal at Madison Tonight

John Beale led wire to wire and took home the checkered flag in the 30 lap Badgerland Challenge for the NASCAR Club LaMark Late Models.

Twenty-five cars took the green flag with John Baumeister Jr. and John Beale showing the way.  Beale took the early lead with Bobby Wilberg and Tom Gille up to second and third.  After five laps Beale continued to lead with Wilberg six car lengths behind in second and Gille another six lengths behind Wilberg with Baumeister Jr. in fourth and Rusty Hansen and Dale Nottestad battling it out for fifth.

After ten laps Beale and Wilberg began to distance themselves from the third place car of Gille as they were beginning to catch the tail end of the field.  Just as they were about to do so, the first caution flag came out on lap 11 when Pat Richgels and Hunter Drefahl tangled  in turn three causing Richgels to spin.

Beale continued his lead after the restart with Wilberg, Hansen, Nottestad, and Gille completing the top five.  On lap 13 Zack Riddle passed Baumeister Jr. to move into sixth place.  At the half way mark Beale was increasing his advantage over Wilberg who were starting to distance themselves from the third place car of Hansen.

Riddle moved into the top five by working his way past Gille on lap 18 shortly before the caution flag came out when Shawn Gunsolus spun in turn two.

With the top three cars choosing to line up on the inside, Nottestad rolled the dice to start outside Wilberg in the second row for the restart.  But it was another great restart for Beale who continued his lead over Wilberg only to see another caution flag come out when several cars at the tail end of the field piled up in turn one.

Riddle elected to line up next to Wilberg in row two for the restart, but the caution flag waved again when several cars made contact coming out of turn one before a lap could be completed.  This would mean another restart.  Beale jumped back into the lead followed by Wilberg, Riddle, Nottestad, and Hansen.  The race would stay under green for only one lap before the caution came out when Wayne Freimund made hard contact with the wall in turn three.

Beale jumped back out to the lead over Wilberg, Riddle, and Nottestad as the front four separated themselves from the field.   The race stayed green for the rest of the way as did the top four as Beale picked up the victory.

“It was fun.  But you really don’t want to have guys like Wilberg, Riddle, and Nottestad breathing down your back,” said Beale.

Jason Thoma Cruises to Sportsman Checkered Flag

Jason Thoma picked up his second win of the season in the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman twenty lap main event.

Johnny Robinson I and Ray Hellenbrand led the ten car field to the green flag.  Robinson II jumped out to the lead with Mike Taylor close behind in second followed by Jason Thoma.  On lap 3 Taylor worked to the inside coming out of turn four to take the lead.  Thoma was not about to wait behind Taylor as he took the lead one lap later.

On lap 5 Robert Hansberry Jr. passed Taylor for second with Steve Anderson moving into third on lap 6.  But out front Thoma was opening up a half straightaway advantage over Hansberry Jr.  By the half way point Hansberry Jr. was slowly cutting into Thoma’s  lead, but soon had his hands full with Anderson who was close behind in third.

It appeared that only a caution flag could slow down Thoma who had a one second lead over Hansberry Jr. with the race quickly coming to a close.  But the race stayed green and Thoma cruised to victory lane followed by Hansberry Jr., Anderson, Ryan Goldade, and Taylor.

“The car was definitely hooked up tonight.  We had a blast out there,” said Thoma.

Steve Anderson was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 19.889 (90.502 mph).  Robert Hansberry Jr. won the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash for the fifth time this season.  Heat races were won by Johnny Robinson II and Ryan Goldade.

Lyle Phillips Best of the Bandits

Lyle Phillips led wire to wire to pick up the victory in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits twenty lap feature event.

Phillips and James Junget paced the fourteen car Bandit field to the green flag.  Phillips took the early lead followed by Steve Dickson, Junget, Nick Schmidt, and Brandon DeLacy.  On lap 3 Schmidt passed Junget to move into third before a spin brought out the caution flag.

Phillips maintained his lead on the restart with Schmidt up to second running on the outside of Dickson with DeLacy joining the mix.  On lap 8 Ronnie Coppernoll moved past Junget for the fifth spot.  Phillips continued to lead at the half-way mark as Dickson and Schmidt raced side by side for second as the field started to catch lapped traffic.  That same lapped traffic forced Schmidt to slow allowing Dickson to take second and close on Phillips.  But Phillips was able to work his way past the lapped cars to pick up his second win of the season.  Dickson, Schmidt, DeLacy, and Coppernoll rounded out the top five.

“The biggest thing was not looking in the mirror.  I held my line and it worked out well for me,” said Phillips.

Spiegel and Chilson Pick Up Wins in 6Shooters

Tyler Spiegel won the first twelve lap feature for the Roto Rooter 6Shooters.

Starting from the pole, Mike Seidel took the early lead in the twelve car 6Shooter feature.  He held the top spot for the first four laps beforeTyler Spiegel worked his way to his outside  and motored his way past to take the lead.  Coming up quickly behind the top two were Jim Ronspiez and Trevor Chilson who had raced their way to third and fourth.   Ronspiez moved into second with four laps to go but had multiple car lengths to close on the leader.  But it was too much to gain in too few laps as Spiegel picked up his first-ever victory at Madison.  Ronspiez finished second followed by Chilson, Kevin Whitford, and Seidel.

“It was a lot of fun out there tonight,” said Spiegel in a post race interview.

Trevor Chilson picked up his second win of the season in the second feature.

Don Ledwidge took the early lead with Chad Niday  in second.  On lap 2 Mike Bollinger found room on the inside to take the lead.  Up through the pack was Trevor Chilson who raced his way into second with Kevin Whitford close behind.

On lap 6 Chilson pulled to the outside of Bollinger and took the lead coming out of turn four.  One lap later the caution flag came out when Bollinger and Whitford got together coming out of turn three with Whitford eventually losing his rear bumper.

A great restart for Chilson allowed him to take a sizeable lead over Whitford and easily take his Pontiac to victory lane.  Whitford finished second followed by Bollinger, Jim Ronspiez, and Nick Krohn.

“I’m happy to be back in victory lane,” said Chilson.
