It’s Super Friday this Week at Madison; Super Lates are Back

Story Image

One of the biggest and best Friday night shows of the season will take place this week at Madison as Bobcat of Janesville presents Super Friday with five divisions in action highlighted by the second round of the Super Late Model Triple Crown Challenge.

But the excitement doesn’t end there as the Whelen All American NASCAR Late Models, Dave’s White Rock Sportsman, Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, and Roto Rooter 6Shooters will also be on track. This will be the only time in 2017 that you will see all five of these divisions in one night at Madison.

An outstanding field of super late model drivers coming from four states will be on hand to battle it out for 50 laps on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile. In June, Dan Fredrickson of Lakeville, Minnesota, captured the checkered flag topping a very competitive field. Bobby Wilberg finished second followed by Rich Bickle Jr., Paul Shafer Jr., and John Beale. Fredrickson is the current point leader with 122 followed by Wilberg (101), Bickle Jr. (97), Shafer Jr. (94), and Beale (83) as points are accumulated from qualifying, heat races, and feature similar to the point system used for weekly racing. Nearly all of the drivers who competed in June are expected to return along with some new faces including past Triple Crown Challenge champion Casey Johnson.

This is the sixth year for the Challenge at Madison with past overall winners being Casey Johnson (2013, 2016), Jeremy Miller (2015), Chris Wimmer (2014), and Nathan Haseleu (2012).

The final round of the Challenge will be the Howie Lettow Classic on Friday, August 18th.

In NASCAR Weekly Racing, Jeremy Miller (Late Models), Robert Hansberry Jr. (Sportsman), and Dave Schmidt (Bandits) lead the points chase in their respective divisions going into this week. This will be the fourth points race of the season for the Late Models and Sportsman and third start for the Bandits. The 6Shooters will be making their second appearance of the year when they take on the Ring of Fire.

Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice at 5:00, qualifying at 6:15, and racing at 7:30. Adult admission is $18.00 with Seniors and Whelen Heroes at $16.00, Students ages 12-17 are $10.00, Children 6-11 are $5.00 and Kids 5 and under are free. Families are encouraged to take advantage of the special “Family” pricing where two adults and up to four students / children are admitted for just $40.00.
