It’s the tenth running of the Howie Lettow Classic 100 featuring the super late models of the ASA Midwest Tour this Friday night at Madison. The race will pay $5000 to the winner. Plus joining the racing program will be the highly competitive and exciting Midwest Truck Series. Capping off the night will be a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the skies over Wisconsin’s Fastest Half Mile.
The Tour race is held in honor of the late Howie Lettow who was a highly respected crew chief who passed away of cancer in 2010 at the age of 62.

About Friday Night
The Howie Lettow Classic began in 2012 with the first three events run at the Milwaukee Mile before moving to Madison in 2015. Casey Johnson and Ty Majeski have two wins each with Erik Jones, Kyle Busch, Paul Shafer Jr., Travis Sauter, and last year’s winner, Austin Nason, each earning a win. Rain and Covid canceled three events.
This will be the 24th Tour race at Madison. Majeski has four wins at Madison with Johnson, and Travis Sauter with three each.
Earlier this year, Ty Majeski won the ASA Midwest Tour Joe Shear Classic. Gabe Sommers finished second followed in the top five by Brent Edmunds, Casey Johnson, and Justin Mondeik. Ty Fredrickson was fast qualifier with a lap of 17.548.
Majeski also won the ASA STARS National Tour race on June 14th.
The Midwest Tour points race is tight with Gabe Sommers on top of the standings with with 606 points just ten points ahead of Levon VanDerGeest (596). Ty Majeki is third with 582 points followed by Justin Mondeik (558) and Ty Fredrickson (548). Majeski has four wins with Sommers and Mondeik each getting a win.

The Midwest Truck Series is no stranger to Madison as truck racing began here all the way back in 1997.
It’s a tight points race for the series as Brandon Reichenberger is the current leader with 720 points followed by Jeff Holtz (713), Eugene Gregorich III (711), Chester Ace (705) and Jacob Nottestad (683).
Jeff Holtz won the race earlier this season as part of the Joe Shear Classic. Derek Doerr was runner-up with Ace, Nottestad, and Gregorich III completing the top five. Gregorich III was quick qualifier with a trip of 18.830. Mike Corvo has the track record with a lap of 18.662 set in May of 2019.

Friday night’s Midwest Tour race will be the 722nd super late model race at Madison since the half-mile was installed in 1969.
The trucks are no strangers to Madison. This truck race will be the 197th time they have competed on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile under different sanctioning bodies.
