Oregon, WI- For the first time ever, season Championship Points will be awarded to both the Roto Rooter 6shooters and HSRA (High School Racing Association) at Madison International Speedway. A season long Champion will now be crowned for these two classes which compete on the quarter-mile ‘Ring of Fire’ paved oval which sits inside the better known half-mile oval. The top ten points earners will be recognized at the MIS Champions’ Banquet next January.
The 6shooters class began in 2015 and has now grown to fields nearing and sometimes exceeding thirty entries on any given night. The popular entry level division allows drivers to get their first experience behind the wheel of a race car. Utilizing domestic production, six cylinder vehicles with minor safety and competitive upgrades, this division is a true throwback to stock car racing’s beginnings.
High Schoolers from across Wisconsin and Illinois have discovered the fun of the High School Racing Association which began in 2020 and first appeared at MIS during the 2021 season. Based off of the 6shooter rule package with additional safety improvements, the HSRA is now competing at over a dozen tracks in the upper Midwest with some schools even awarding varsity letters for their student racers. MIS will now join other tracks in awarding a track Championship in addition to the HSRA State and Regional individual and school team awards.
