After a lengthy weather delay due to persistent light rain, Carter Nilson (Late Models), Waylon Robinson (MISfitz), and Dylan Klinger (6Shooters) made their way to victory lane on Fink’s Paving Championship Night at Madison. Both qualifying and second features were lost as a result of the rain and time constraints.
The 2026 track champions were also crowned tonight. Brent Edmunds won his first-ever Late Model championship at Madison while Nick Schneider won the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz and Dylan Klinger picked up his third straight title in the Roto Rooter 6Shooters. (More on this in a separate story).
The 2026 Rookies of the Year were Tyler Harding (Late Models), Robinson (MISfitz), and Christopher Webb (6Shooters).
Carter Nilson Holds Off Ryan Goldade for Late Model Checkered Flag
A driver can’t finish the season much better than Carter Nilson. After coming close several times during the season, Nilson raced his way to victory lane tonight after picking up a win in the Big 8 main event last Friday.
Tyler Harding grabbed the early lead from the front row with Ryan Goldade taking the lead on the second lap with Stephen Scheel passing Harding for second followed by Carter Nilson and Pat Richgels. On lap 6 Nilson, who had started eighth, worked by Harding to take third.
After ten laps Goldade had built up a big lead over Stephen Scheel and Nilson as the three broke away from the pack. On lap 13 Nilson squeezed past Stephen Scheel to take the second spot but was still 2.4 seconds behind the leader.
At the half-way mark Goldade had to work his way around lapped traffic which allowed Nilson to close the gap. On lap 18 Goldade’s lead was down to 1.4 seconds with Jake Gille, who came into the night second in points, pressuring Stephen Scheel for third. With eight laps to go Gille was able to clear Scheel for third.
With six laps to go Nilson had cut the gap to 0.6 seconds and with five laps to go the difference was down to two car lengths. With four laps to go Nilson worked to the inside of Goldade to take the lead, but Goldade fought back to take the lead with two laps to go.
From there it was an epic finish as the two raced side by side with Nilson able to get out front on the final lap and held off Goldade by 0.495 seconds for his first win of the season in the weekly Late Models and his second in his Madison career. Finishing behind Nilson and Goldade were Gille, Colton Morgan, and Brent Edmunds.
Waylon Robinson Edges Kenny Storkson for MISfitz Win
Robinson held off Storkson by 0.212 seconds to pick up the win in tonight’s 20 lap feature. It was his third feature win of the season.
McKayla Adams and Kevin Anderson paced the field to the green flag. Anderson jumped out to the lead followed by Rick Coppernoll and Waylon Robinson. On lap 3 Robinson moved past Coppernoll for second with Kenny Storkson and Nick Schneider in the top five.
On lap 6 Robinson powered his way past Anderson on the outside coming out of turn four. Two laps later Storkson raced past Anderson to take the second position and began closing the gap on Robinson. A spin on lap 10 brought out the first caution flag of the race.
Robinson led the field back to green and continued to maintain a slight lead over Storkson. The duo opened up a multi-car length lead over Anderson and Schneider who were fighting for third before they got together on the front stretch bringing out the caution flag. This forced Schneider, who came into the night as the point leader, to take his car into the pits. He was able to return and would finish eighth.
The double file restart found Robinson choosing the inside with Storkson on the outside followed by Brady Liddle and Dave Edwards. Before a lap could be completed a spin brought out another caution flag.
When the race went green again, Robinson and Storkson were side by side with Robinson gaining the advantage. But Storkson fought back and gave it his best shot coming up just short of Robinson who picked up his third win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Dave Edwards, Kyle Wahlgren, and Brandon Liddle.
Dylan Klinger Races to Victory Lane
Klinger won for the third time in 2026 and in doing so earned his third straight track championship for the Roto Rooter 6Shooters. He now has thirteen career feature wins in the division at Madison.
The fifteen car field was led to the green flag by Todd Klinger and Christopher Webb. Webb broke out to the early lead followed by Randy Grancorvitz and Noah Karr. Adeptly working his way up towards the front was Dylan Klinger who was up to fourth. On lap 3 Grancorvitz took the lead with Webb regaining the top spot on lap 5.
Webb then had a mirror full of Klinger who moved to the inside as the two raced side by side for the lead. Klinger would win the battle for the top spot. At the half-way point Klinger, Webb, and Grancorvitz had put some distance between themselves and the field.
From there it was all Klinger who quickly opened up a ten car length lead over the field with Grancorvitz, Webb, and Josh Zacharias doing everything they could to catch him. Only a caution flag could so Klinger down, but the race stayed green and he cruised to victory lane followed by Webb, Zacharias, Grancorvitz, and Noah Karr.
Next week at Madison it’s the 6th Annual Cheese Curd Cup featuring six divisions of racing all on the “Ring of Fire.” See the Midwest Dash Series, Bandits, Crown Vics / Affordable Fords, 6 Shooters, Legends, and High School Racing Association (HSRA). It will be Championship Night for the Slater Racing Legends and HSRA for Madison with the high schoolers racing double features.
Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice at 5:00, qualifying at 6:15 and racing at 7:30. Grandstands open at 6:00. Busch Lights are just $2.00 with Cheese Curds also for $2.00.
