Cain, Weinkauf, and Maurer also Winners
For the second week in a row, Bobby Wilberg raced his way to victory lane this time in a 602 Outlaw Late Model after winning in the Late Models division last week. He was joined in victory lane by Lincoln Cain (Legends) and Oliver Weinkauf (Bandoleros). Jack Maurer won the Bandoleros “B” feature. Michael Bilderback also won for the second week in a row after picking up the Big 8 Late Models 48 lap main event. (See separate story)
Wilberg Best of the 602 Outlaw Late Models
Bobby Wilberg led wire to wire and held off Dan Snyder to win the 30 lap 602 Late Models won his fourth 602 Outlaw Late Models race at Madison giving him seventy-seven wins in his career at Madison.
Dan Snyder and Wilberg brought the ten car field to the green flag. From the outside Wilberg took the early lead followed by Snyder and Mason Hellenbrand. On lap 11 Tanner Berge pulled to the inside of Hellenbrand racing side by side for third while Wilberg and Snyder were able to step away from the field. On lap 12 Berge was able to take the third spot but was eight car lengths behind the leaders.
A spin on the backstretch on lap 15 brought out the first caution flag of the race. Wilberg brought the field back to the green flag and opened up a three length lead over Snyder. With ten laps to go, Wilberg’s lead was two lengths over Snyder with Berge and Storkson four lengths behind Snyder.
Wilberg was able to increase his lead over Snyder and with two laps to go the advantage was four car lengths. But Snyder would never get closer as Wilberg was too quick tonight and picked up the checkered flag.
“I was just trying to hit my marks. Any opportunity to put a Joe Shear throwback car in victory lane is cool,” said Wilberg from victory lane.
Fast qualifier was Tanner Berge with a lap of 19.008 (94.697 mph). Eight lap heat races were won by Waylon Robinson and Kenny Storkson.
Lincoln Cain Wins His Fourth in a Row at Madison
Lincoln Cain continued his hot streak at Madison by winning the 20 lap main event for the Slater Racing Legends after sweeping both races in 2025 and the race in 2024. Tonight’s event was the 95th Legends race at Madison dating back to 1996.
Sixteen cars came to the green flag led by Marianna Kubicz and Aaron Genske. Kubicz jumped out to the early lead over Genske with Bentley Thompson quickly up to third before a spin on lap two in turn four brought out the caution flag. Following the restart, Thompson worked his way to the outside of Genske to take second. On lap 4 Thompson powered his way to the lead followed by Kubicz and Lincoln Cain.
On lap 7 Cain passed Kubicz for second with Cael Slater taking third one lap later. A spin on lap 10 brought out the second caution flag. Thompson led the field back to the green with Cain taking the lead one lap later with Slater up to second. With five laps to go Cain’s lead was eight car lengths over Slater who was doing everything he could do to close the gap.
Cain continued to power his way around the “Ring of Fire” all the way to victory lane. Following him in the top five were Slater, Thompson, Stein, and Ryan Laatsch.
“It was a great race. I love racing with these guys. We’ve got a great group of Legends drivers,” said Cain.
Cain set fast time with a trip of 13.688 (65.751 mph). Winning the eight lap heat races were Marianna Kubicz and Bentley Thompson.
Oliver Weinkauf Becomes a First Time Winner at Madison
Weinkauf held off Ryder Robinson to win the 15 lap “A” main for the Bandoleros giving him his first-ever win at Madison.
Ryder Robinson and Weinkauf in the 15 lap “A” feature for the Bandoleros. Robinson grabbed the early lead before a spin behind the leaders brought out the first caution flag. Robinson continued to lead after the restart followed closely by Weinkauf and Brayden Clossey. Wesley Baumeister joined the top four as they broke away from the field.
On lap 9 Weinkauf worked past Robinson coming out of turn four to take the lead with Ace Oldenhoff and Emily Billings moving up to third and fourth. With two laps to go Billings took the third spot but out front there was no denying Weinkauf who cruised to victory lane. Robinson finished second followed by Billings, Baumeister, and Oldenhoff.
“I came here not knowing how to drive this track, but worked on it in practice and it paid off,” said Weinkauf.
Brayden Clossey set fast time with a lap of 14.416 (62.431 mph). Six lap heat race winners were Riley Hansberry, Ryder Robinson, and Axel Oldenhoff.
Jack Maurer Wins Bando “B” Feature
Maurer also picked up his first win at Madison in the ten lap “B” feature.
Kinsleigh Weber and LJ Robinson III brought the “B” main field to the green flag. Weber jumped out to a big lead before the caution flag came out on the second lap. Weber continued to lead with Jarrett Reynolds in second. On lap 3 Jack Maurer pulled inside both Reynolds and Weber to take the lead. A spin on lap 6 brought out the second caution flag. Maurer led the field back to green followed by Weber and Reynolds. Maurer was able to keep the field at bay to pick up the win followed by Weber, Reynolds, and Riley Hansberry.
