Bobby Wilberg started seventh and took the lead on lap 5 and went on to win the 30 lap feature for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models. With double features next week Wilberg leads Jeremy Miller 890-887. Trevor Robinson won his first-ever feature in the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman with Dave Schmidt taking the win in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits and Ken Morris topping the Roto Rooter 6Shooters.

Bobby Wilberg Wins a Wild One

Bobby Wilberg won the caution filled 30 lap feature for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models.

The talented nineteen car field was led to the green flag by Pat Richgels and Bill Baumeister who raced side by side for the first two laps before getting together coming out of turn one sending cars spinning to avoid and bringing out the caution flag. Both drivers were sent to the back of the field as a result.

Will Rece took the lead on the restart followed by Wilberg, Michael Bilderback, and Brent Edmunds. On lap 5 Wilberg pulled inside of Rece coming out of turn two to take the lead just before several cars got together in turn one bringing out the second caution flag of the night.

Wilberg continued to lead after the restart with Bilderback up to second before another caution flag came out on lap 7 when Rece and Zack Riddle made contact on the front stretch. Wilberg, Bilderback, and Nick Panitzke broke away from the pack on the restart with Wilberg again taking the lead before the caution waved again for a spin after the field completed just one lap. Two more restarts led to two more caution flags for spins behind the leaders.

Wilberg was able to get back out front with Panitzke passing Bilderback for second on lap 13 with Jeremy Miller and Adam Peschek rounding out the top five. Wilberg was able to open up a two car length advantage over Panitzke with ten laps to go with the top four distancing themselves from the rest of the field. With six laps to go John Baumeister Jr. broke into the top five when he passed Peschek.

Panitzke was able to close the gap on Wilberg to a single car length with four laps to go. With three laps to go the caution flag came out when Brian Beale made contact with the wall in turn three setting up another restart.

Wilberg and Panitzke raced side by side back to the green flag with Wilberg gaining the upper hand and leading the rest of the way to the green flag. Panitzke, Bilderback, Baumeister Jr., and Brent Edmunds rounded out the top five.

“That was a long race. It felt like two hundred laps. The car was fast in practice, but I didn’t do well in qualifying,” said Wilberg.

Fast time was set by Panitzke with a trip of 18.882 (95.329 mph). Bilderback won the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash. Heat races were won by John Baumeister Jr., Jeremy Miller, and Wilberg.

Trevor Robinson Performs His Magic in Sportsman Feature

Trevor “Magic Shoes” Robinson won his first-ever feature at Madison by holding off Robert Hansberry Jr. in the 20 lap event for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman.

Shawn Evans and Robinson paced the field of eleven cars to the green flag.

Robinson won the drag race to take the early lead from Evans who surrendered the second position on lap 2 to Robert Hansberry Jr. just prior to the waving of the caution flag for a spin.

Robinson maintained his lead over Hansberry Jr. when the green flag waved with Mike Taylor up to third as the top three broke away from the pack. Hansberry Jr. made several attempts to get by Robinson on the outside but each time he was able to hold him off.

On the final lap Hansberry Jr. gave it one more shot but again would be denied as Robinson picked up the checkered flag. Hansberry Jr. finished second followed by Taylor, Ray Hellenbrand, and Evans.

“Hansberry was really fast tonight. I’ve been trying to get this for two years and it’s great,” said Robinson.

For the first time at Madison, Gary Hellenbrand set fast time with a lap of 20.351 (88.448 mph). The RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash was won by Mike Taylor. Heat races were won by Ray Hellenbrand and Trevor Robinson.

Dave Schmidt Best of the Bandits

Dave Schmidt won the 20 lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits. It was his fourth victory of the season and increased his point lead in the division with two feature events remaining on the schedule.

Bill Kohn jumped out to the early lead followed by Jeremy Bredeson and Steve Dickson. On lap 4 Dave Schmidt worked his way past Dickson for third and one lap later passed Bredeson for second and started to hunt down the leader. On lap 9 Schmidt raced by Kohn on the outside to take the lead and quickly pulled away from the field. Kohn was able to hang on to second place with Nick Schmidt and Dany Snyder in pursuit.

With four laps to go Nick Schmidt moved into second place, but nobody was going to be able to catch Dave Schmidt as long as the race stayed green. It stayed green and Dave Schmidt easily picked up the win with Nick Schmidt, Snyder, Kohn, and Lyle Phillips completing the top five.

“We’ve been getting faster and faster each week,” said Schmidt.

Dave Schmidt was the fastest qualifier with a circuit of 14.767 (60.946 mph). Dan Snyder won the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash. Lyle Phillips and Steve Dickson won the heat races.

6Shooter Win Goes to Ken Morris

Ken Morris notched his second feature win of the season in the Roto Rooter 6Shooter 12 lap main event.

Randy Grant and Cory Xander raced side by side for the early lead before a spin on lap 2 brought out the caution flag. Xander led following the restart for one lap before Ken Morris took the lead from the outside.

Morris quickly ran away from the field as the main action was taking place behind him. Mike Seidel moved up to second followed by Nick Krohn, Chris Brugger, and Trevor Chilson. Krohn powered his way to second with three laps to go, and was able to hold off Seidel and Chilson at the stripe but were never able to get close to Morris.

“I want to thank everyone for coming. It means a lot to us as drivers,” said Morris.

Heat races were won by Trevor Chilson and Nick Krohn.

Next week at Madison is Whelen Engineering Season Championship Night with double features for the Late Models, Sportsman, and Bandits. Gates open at 6:00 with qualifying at 6:15 and racing at 7:30.
