Hansen, Bredeson, Bishop, and Kosowski Also Winners

Bobby Wilberg (NASCAR Late Models), Tyler Hansen (Dave’s White Rock MISfitz), Jeremy Bredeson (Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits), Dan Bishop (Roto Rooter 6Shooters), and Connor Kosowski (Central States Super Cups) took home the checkered flags tonight as part of Buck Night at Madison International Speedway.

Bobby Wilberg Captures the Late Model Flag

Bobby Wilberg won the 30 lap feature for the NASCAR Late Models.

The field came to the green flag led by Brody Willett and Bobby Wilberg with Wilberg taking the early advantage. On the second lap Zack Riddle pulled to the outside of Willett to race for second with John Baumeister Jr. also in the mix along with Dale Nottestad. On lap 4 Riddle took the second spot while Wilberg was opening up an eight car length advantage out front.

Two laps later Baumeister Jr. worked his way to third with Nottestad moving up to fourth as the top five were putting some distance between themselves and the rest of the field. A caution flag for a spin on lap 13.

Wilberg paced the field back to green followed by Riddle, Baumeister Jr., and Nottestad. Baumeister Jr. and Nottestad were racing side by side for third while Riddle was keeping pace with Wilberg. With ten laps to go Wilberg’s lead was a single car length over Riddle. With eight laps to go the lead was back to two car lengths and growing while Baumeister Jr. cleared Nottestad for third.

But Riddle was not about to let Wilberg run away from him as he narrowed the gap to less than a car length with four laps to go. Riddle gave it everything he had, but Wilberg was not to be denied tonight as he picked up his first win of the season by a 0.24 second margin over Riddle. Baumeister Jr., Nottestad, and Willett completed the top five.

“This one feels really good. I knew Zack was really good so this was a good win,” said Wilberg.

Dale Nottestad set fast time with a trip of 18.573 (96.915 mph). Zack Riddle won the DASH. Nottestad and Bobby Wilberg were heat race winners.

Tyler Hansen Notches First Madison Win

Tyler Hansen won the twenty lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock MISfitz.

Ray Hellenbrand and Chris Wangrow paced the field to the green flag. Hellenbrand jumped out to the lead as Tyler Hansen moved past Wangrow for second. Bryan Hellenbrand moved into third one lap later followed by Rick Coppernoll and Dave Edwards.

After five laps, Hellenbrand’s lead was less than a car length over Hansen with Coppernoll up to third. On lap 7 Coppernoll moved into second with Bryan Hellenbrand and Bobby Frisch fighting it out for fourth. On lap 9, Hansen worked his way to the outside of Ray Hellenbrand to take the lead coming out of turn four.

Hansen opened up an eight car length lead over Coppernoll and the rest of the field with seven laps to go. While Coppernoll and Frisch were battling it out for second, Hansen was able to increase his lead out front while keeping his times above the twenty seconds mark.

With one lap to go, Frisch moved past Coppernoll for second just before spinning coming out of turn two bringing out the caution flag. At this point the race was declared official since the caution flag came out on the final lap giving Hansen his first-ever win at Madison.

“I certainly didn’t expect to be here,” said Hansen from victory lane.

Dave Edwards set a new track record in qualifying with a lap of 20.035 (89.843 mph). Edwards also picked up the win in the DASH. Heat winners were Ray Hellenbrand and Bryce Miller.

Big Night for Jeremy Bredeson in the Bandits

Jeremy Bredeson won the 25 lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits.

Bart Brockmann took the early lead with Jeremy Bredeson, Dave Schmidt, and Rich Schinderling applying heavy pressure. On lap 6 Bredeson moved to the outside of Brockmann and took the lead one lap later. One lap later the cars of Dave Schmidt and Rich Schinderling made contact bringing out the caution and relegating both to the tail of the field.

Bredeson brought the field back to the green flag and jumped out to a quick five car length lead over Nick Schmidt and Brandon Junget. At the half-way mark the lead was more than ten car lengths with Schmidt and Junget doing their best to keep Bredeson in their sights. While Schmidt and Junget were battling for second it allowed Bredeson to go on cruise control out front.

While Schmidt and Junget were entertaining the crowd with great side by side racing for second, this race belonged to Bredeson who picked up his first win of the season. Junget, Nick Schmidt, Ronnie Osborne, and Dave Schmidt completed the top five.

“I didn’t do really well in qualifying, but this is a lot of fun,” said Bredeson who picked up his first feature win of the season and became the fourth different driver in the division to win.

Setting fast time was Brandon Junget with a lap of 14.798 (60.819 mph). Jeremy Bredeson won the DASH. Bredeson and Dave Schmidt won the heat races.

Two in a Row for Dan Bishop in 6Shooters

Dan Bishop picked up his second straight win in the Roto Rooter 6Shooters.

It was a wild one to say the least as the largest gathering of 6Shooters ever at Madison took to the Ring of Fire for fifteen exciting laps.

Dan Bishop and Cory McCarthy brought the twenty-two car field to the green flag. Bishop and Jaime Prado broke away from the huge field while racing behind them was three and four wide. On lap 6 Ken Morris moved up to third. On lap 8 the leaders had caught the back of the pack as Bishop and Prado opened a huge lead. Bishop was slicing and dicing his way through traffic as Prado was caught in traffic.

Bishop was able to hang on for the win followed by Prado, Morris, Matt Moore, and Steve Buna. Rounding out the top ten were Trevor Chilson, Kevin Beyer, Dylan Klinger, Todd Carteron, and Sean Worman.

“This was fun. It helped starting up near the front,” said Bishop.

Heat race winners were Steve Buna, Todd Holerud, and Matt Moore.

Clean Sweep for Connor Kosowski in Super Cups

Connor Kosowksi won the twenty lap feature for the Central States Region Super Cups.

Michael Mucha and Ron McNeilly brought the field to the green flag. Landon Hocking wasted no time in jumping out to the lead followed by Kellen Arnold III who spun on lap 3 bringing out the caution flag. On the restart Hocking jumped out to a sizeable lead over the second place car of Connor Kosowski before getting loose coming out of turn two giving the lead to Kosowski on lap 4.

From this point on it was all Kosowski who was turning sub-fifteen second laps and easily picked up the win. Kellen Arnold III finished second followed by Mucha, Brandyn Wind, and McNeilly.

“This track is super fun and super tough,” said Kosowski who made the trip from Chicago, Illinois.

Fast qualifier for the Central States Super Cups was Connor Kosowski with a lap of 15.120 (59.524 mph). Kosowski also won the heat race.

Racing continues on Friday, June 28thfor the Salute to America Night featuring the area’s biggest and best aerial and ground fireworks display by Spielbauer Fireworks plus the Bytec Inc. Dairyland 100 for the USAC Silver Crown cars and the Salute to America 48 for the Big 8 Late Models.
