Eight Other Drivers Also Take Home Wins

It was double feature night at Madison as Union 464 presented Kids’ Night.

Bobby Wilberg and Zack Riddle each won a feature for the Late Models while Mike Taylor and Robert Hansberry Jr. (Sportsman), Steve Dickson and Nick Schmidt (Bandits), Karter Stark and Alex Hartwig (Bandoleros), and James Lynch and Cole Gray (Legends) all picked up wins.

Dozens of bicycles were presented to lucky kids tonight thanks to the generous donations of Union 464 and the race teams. The management at Madison would like to thank those who helped out with Kids’ Night.

Wilberg and Riddle Take Top Late Model Honors

Bobby Wilberg won the first twenty-five lap feature for the NASCAR Late Models after passing Zack Riddle to take back the lead with two laps remaining. Wilberg became the first repeat winner in the division while Riddle became the sixth different winner in seven events.

Bobby Wilberg and Riley Stenjem led the NASCAR Late Model field to the green flag in their first twenty-five lap feature. Wilberg jumped out to the lead with John Baumeister Jr. passing Stenjem for second on lap two. On lap 5 Zack Riddle worked his way to the inside of Stenjem to take the third spot. Two laps later Will Rece would do the same and move into fourth.

Out front Wilberg and Baumeister Jr. had caught lapped traffic by lap 8 which allowed Riddle to close some ground as the three distanced themselves from the fourth place car of Rece. At the half-way mark Wilberg’s lead was three car lengths over Baumeister Jr. who had his hands full holding off Riddle. On lap 14 Riddle got to the inside of Baumeister Jr. going into turn two and took the lead going down the backstretch.

Wilberg and Riddle broke away from the rest of the field as they worked their way through lapped traffic. Riddle took the lead with three laps to go coming out of turn four, but Wilberg wasn’t done as he was able to regain the top spot one lap later and hold off Riddle and Baumeister Jr. to pick up the win.

“That was a good race,” said Wilberg.

Steve Carlson and Brent Edmunds ushered the field to the green flag. Carlson took the early lead with John Baumeister Jr. quickly up to second followed by Will Rece and Bobby Wilberg. The race’s first caution flag waved on lap 3 when the cars of Riley Stenjem and Jon Reynolds Jr. got together in turn four.

Carlson and Baumeister Jr. both chose to line up on the inside for the restart while Will Rece jumped up to the outside of the front row.

Rece won the restart, but it would be waved off after several cars got together behind the leaders that brought out the caution flag once again.

Carlson and Rece ran side by side following the restart with Carlson gaining the advantage. Baumeister Jr. was up to second on lap 5. On lap 6 Edmunds moved past Baumeister Jr. for second, but Zack Riddle was able to take the second spot from Edmunds one lap later. Shaun Scheel was running fourth with Wilberg in fifth.

Out front Riddle was hunting down Carlson. On lap 11 Riddle powered his way past Carlson on the outside coming out of turn two to take the point. With ten laps to go Riddle had opened his lead over Carlson to eight lengths. On lap 17 Edmunds and Scheel both passed Carlson to move up to second and third while Brian Beale cracked the top five as well. Beale moved into fourth with four laps to go, but out front it was all Riddle whose advantage continued to be eight lengths over Edmunds and Scheel.

With two laps to go Edmunds had closed the gap to four lengths, but time was running out as Riddle raced his way to victory lane. Edmunds, Scheel, Beale, and Baumeister Jr. rounded out the top five.

“I’ve got awesome guys helping me with the car,” said Riddle from victory lane.

Setting fast time in qualifying with a lap of 18.836 (95.562 mph) was Zack Riddle. The Dash winner was Bobby Wilberg.

Sportsman Winners are Taylor and Hansberry Jr.

Mike Taylor picked up the checkered flag in the first feature for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman while Robert Hansberry Jr. won the second feature.

Taylor took the early lead from his front row starting position but quickly had Ray Hellenbrand and Robert Hansberry Jr. in his rear view mirror as the three broke away from the pack. On lap 8, Taylor got loose coming out of turn one which was all Ray Hellenbrand needed to make the pass for the lead. Not to be outdone, Hansberry Jr. did the same and started to hunt down the leader.

With five laps to go, Hansberry Jr. looked to the inside of Ray Hellenbrand only to be denied. With three laps to go Hansberry Jr. made contact with the leader sending Hellenbrand spinning coming out of turn four bringing out the caution flag and sending both cars to the rear of the field.

This was good news for Taylor who would inherit the lead for the restart. Taylor was able to maintain the lead followed by Brian Hellenbrand and Gary Hellenbrand. Taylor opened up his lead to a car length on the final lap and held off the hard charging Brian Hellenbrand for the win.

“It was pure luck that those guys took each other out,” said Taylor from victory lane. “We have some things to do on the car before the next feature.”

In the second feature, Robert Hansberry Jr. quickly jumped out to the lead and was cruising out front until the caution flag came out on lap 6 for fluid on the track. The double file restart brought Mike Taylor up to the outside of Hansberry Jr., but Hansberry Jr. was too quick and opened up another big lead.

The race stayed green the rest of the way with the best battle being for second between Taylor and Gary Hellenbrand. Gary Hellenbrand took second with Trevor Robinson nipping Taylor at the stripe for third. Ray Hellenbrand finished fifth.

“I’m thankful for this win,” said Hansberry Jr.

Robert Hansberry Jr. set fast time with a mark of 20.335 (88.517 mph) and won the Dash.

Dickson and Schmidt Take Home Bandit Victories

Steve Dickson took home the checkered flag in the first feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits while Nick Schmidt picked up the win in the second feature.

Ronnie Osborne and Steve Dickson paced the ten car field to the green flag in their first twenty lap feature.. Osborne led the first lap before took the top spot on lap 2. Bill Kohn took second from Osborne on lap 5 with McKayla Adams and Nick Schmidt taking third and fourth on lap 6.

Dickson continued to build his lead out front with Kohn and Schmidt racing side by side for second until the caution flag waved on lap 11 for a car stopped on the backstretch.

Dickson remained out front after the waving of the green flag running the inside with Schmidt working the outside with Kohn and Adams right behind. As Dickson and Schmidt ran side by side, Kohn was up to join the mix with three laps to go. Schmidt tried everything he could do to get by Dickson, but Dickson was on a mission that led him to the checkered flag and his second win in a row. Schmidt finished second followed by Kohn, Adams, and Jeremy Bredeson.

“This feels so good,” said Dickson who thanked his crew for all of their help after his car suffered heavy damage on Saturday night.

In the second feature, Bart Brockman and Ronnie Osborne paced the field to the green flag. Brockman took the early lead. On the second lap Jeremy Bredeson was up to second followed by Nick Schmidt and McKayla Adams.

The action really heated up on lap 7 when a chain reaction at the front of the pack sent Brockman into the infield bringing out the caution flag. The double file restart found Bredeson on the inside and Schmidt on the outside. Bredeson was able to keep him at bay making Schmidt work the outside.

Bredeson and Schmidt continued to run side by side with Bredeson holding a lead of less than two feet. With two laps to go Schmidt was able to gain a slight advantage and hold off Bredeson to pick up the win by inches. Adams, Steve Dickson, and Bill Kohn rounded out the top five.

“I’m happy and excited. I didn’t know if had that one or not,” said Schmidt.

Fast time was set by Nick Schmidt with a lap of 14.908 (60.370 mph). Steve Dickson won the Dash.

Stark and Hartwig Best in the Bandoleros

Karter Stark and Alex Hartwig pickup feature wins for the Bandoleros.

Robbie Rucks and Anna Malouf brought the fourteen car field to the green flag for their first fifteen lap feature. After racing side by side for the first, Malouf took the lead with Karter Stark up to second on lap 2 followed by Jevin Guralski.

On lap 5 Stark pulled to the outside of Malouf with Guralski up to join the mix. But Malouf was able to hold the pair off for the time being.

With Stark, Guralski, and Alex Hartwig chasing her around the Ring of Fire, Malouf continued to hold off the field. As the top four worked their way around lapped traffic, Malouf would eventually get held up just enough to allow Stark to take the high side and take the lead coming out of turn four on the final lap. Malouf would finish second followed by Hartwig, Michael Guderski, and Guralski.

“I knew there were only a few laps left. When I saw the white flag I knew I had to make it to the front,” said Stark.

Kaden Wangsness jumped out to the early lead in the second fifteen lap feature with Emma Hunstiger, Chase Wangsness, and Alex Hartwig running second, third, and fourth. On lap 4 Chase Wangsness pulled alongside his brother to battle for the lead, but it was Alex Hartwig who split the leaders to take the lead on lap 6.

Hartwig wasted no time in opening up a four car length lead over Chase Wangsness before a stalled car on lap 7 brought out the caution flag.

Hartwig continued to lead with Chase Wangsness in pursuit . But it was Michael Guderski who was on the move as he moved up to second to challenge Hartwig, but he wasn’t going to have enough time to catch the leader. Following Hartwig and Guderski in the top five were Chase Wangsness, Guralski, and Stark.

Laney Osborne was fast qualifier with a lap of 14.951 (60.197 mph)

Lynch and Gray First Time Winners at Madison

James Lynch and Cole Gray won the features for the Fast Signs of Madison Legends. Lynch, in is first appearance at Madison and Gray both picked up their first-ever wins here.

Mike Hoffman took the early lead in the first twenty lap feature but relinquished it on the second lap when Mike Storkson powered his way to the lead. James Lynch moved up to second on lap 3 with Hoffman running the high side and moving to the outside of Storkson on lap 4 to try and regain the lead before the caution flag waved for a spin.

Storkson was able to retain the lead after the green flag waved with Hoffman once again trying the high side. That allowed Derek Mueller to quickly move up to second and take the lead on lap 8 and build a six car length lead over the field. Another spin brought out the second caution flag.

Mueller was able to keep his lead after the restart, but Cole Gray was up to challenge with Lynch in third and Storkson in fourth. On lap 10 Mueller and Gray got together in turn two allowing Lynch and Storkson to motor past them both.

With one lap to go, a spin brought out the third caution of the race thus setting up a green, white, checkered shoot out. Lynch was able to get a good jump and picked up the win followed by Storkson, Lucas Stevenson, Mueller, and Hoffman.

Mike Hoffman Sr. and Cole Gray led the field to the green flag in the second feature. Gray quickly jumped out to a large lead. On lap 6 Mike Hoffman Jr. moved into second place before spinning two laps later and bringing out the caution flag and wiping away Gray’s sizeable advantage.

Following the restart, Gray continued to lead but with James Lynch two cars lengths behind him with Derek Mueller up to third at the half-way point. With seven laps to go the second caution flag came out for a car with mechanical issues on the backstretch.

Gray got a great restart and opened up a seven car length lead over Mueller and Lynch. There was no stopping him as he cruised to victory lane followed by Mueller, Mike Hoffman Jr., Lucas Stevenson, and Richard Nelson.

“I was ready to get this one,” said Gray.

Cole Gray was fastest in qualifying with a lap of 14.282 (63.016 mph)
