Beer Mile on Tap July 29 at Madison Int’l Speedway, Winner Receives Beer for a Year

Oregon, WI- Racing and Beer have long been a part of events at Madison International Speedway, on Friday Night July 29, the two will be joined for the inaugural Beer Mile at the paved oval located between Stoughton and Oregon, WI. The winning runner will receive not only bragging rights but beer for a year, one case of beer per week for 52 weeks and commemorative trophy. Participant registration is now open, pre-registered runners will receive a free T-Shirt. Runners will complete a mile on foot while making two laps around Wisconsin’s Fastest Half Mile and drinking ice cold beer in the process. It is all part of Mini of Madison Night which will feature four divisions of stock car racing.

“I was watching Discover Wisconsin on TV this winter and they interviewed someone that stated running events always go better with a beer. Then Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan hosted a Beer Mile this Spring and we said, why not have one here.” Stated Speedway owner Gregg McKarns. “We have gotten quite a bit of positive feedback, this should be fun for everyone involved.” Runners ages 21 and older will be allowed to participate with proof of age in this non-sanctioned event. Advanced registration is just $20 and it includes a ticket to the races, a participant T-Shirt and four cups of ice cold beer during the race.

Additionally, McKarns known as a larger fellow himself, has offered a prize of a half barrel of beer to the top finisher over 250 pounds. Pre-registration closes Sunday July 24, registration will be open at the event, however T-Shirts will not be available.

Racing action will include the Mid-American Stock Car Series, Great Northern Sportsman Series, Midwest Truck Series and Midwest Dash Series in addition to the Beer Mile. A special Salute to the Workin’ Man will allow anyone that shows a current pay stub into the races for just $5. Regular adult admission is $12, Whelen Heroes and Seniors are $10, students (ages 12-17) $8, children (6-11) $5 with kids ages 5 and under admitted FREE.
