 – The American Speed Association® Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings only has a few more days to prepare for the 2012 season opener, 4th Annual Joe Shear Classic, on Sunday, May 6th at Madison International Speedway.

Every year during the offseason, racing series and tracks work hard to make the next season even better through improvements to racing programs for both the drivers and the fans. Madison International Speedway is no exception.

“I’m really pleased and excited for MIS and their future. Terry Kunes and the guys (Jason and Dave) have done a fantastic job directing their efforts towards making MIS a premiere racing facility. I saw some really nice improvements this week and the area fans should really be thankful to have such a nice facility to attend on Friday nights. We are really excited to kick off the season with the ASAMT on Sunday,” said ASAMT VP, Steve Einhaus.

Earlier this year, MIS hired former driver Jason Tyler as the business/marketing manager. He has been leading the way to make numerous changes at the historic track including many the fans will notice immediately.

“We have made many cosmetic changes around the facility. We have fixed fencing, trimmed and cut trees around the track and in the pits, repaired billboards, and improved the victory lane area by moving the inside wall. We have also been power washing walls and decks, making improvements in the concession stands, and more,” noted Tyler.

“We’re also very excited to have a brand new play system for the kids being installed near the VIP pavilion and an awesome new sound system. A lot of people have been working very hard around here to get ready for the 2012 season,” he added.

In less than a week fans can experience it all for themselves as both the ASAMT and MIS kick off the 2012 season together with the 4th Annual Joe Shear Classic.

Qualifying begins at 1:00PM on Sunday, May 6th with racing to follow at 2:30PM. The ASA Midwest Tour Late Models will be joined by the Madison Late Models. Ticket prices are $17 for adults 18-64, $15 for ages 12-17, 65 & older and for those with a military or college I.D. Children ages 6-11 are $5 and children 5 and under are FREE.
