(Oregon, WI) – Defending ASA Midwest Tour Champion Gabe Sommers and his team are preparing for a busy weekend of racing at two of Wisconsin’s historic racetracks.
The Plover, Wisconsin driver is hoping the home field advantage will work in his favor as he will take on the best in the ASA STARS National Tour on Friday, June 14th at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI and on Sunday, June 16th at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, WI.
“I am very excited to get back to MIS we have been very competitive there in the past and can’t wait to get another shot at putting it in victory lane at a big show with some really strong competition,” Sommers recently said when asked about making another visit to Wisconsin’s fastest half-mile oval.
Last month, he finished second to defending ASA STARS National Tour champion Ty Majeski in the Joe Shear Classic 200.
Two of four victories in the tough ASA Midwest Tour came in 200-lap events. He captured the 2022 Jim Sauter Classic at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI and the 2023 Oktoberfest 200 during the famed Oktoberfest Race Weekend at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI.
His GSR team will then head down to the Milwaukee Mile for the Father’s Day 100 on Sunday, June 16th.
Sommers has had strong runs in the past three runnings at the Mile. In 2021, he finished second behind Majeski. Finished sixth in 2022, and seventh in the ASA STARS National Tour race last year.
“Milwaukee Mile is such a historic place and it’s always great to have another opportunity to get back and have some fun. I’m looking for a strong run this year at the Mile,” Sommers said. “I think we will have a pretty sporty machine for the mile this year.”
Sommers will have not only his own past experience at both tracks, but also his crew chief, Travis Sauter, also has had success as well at both tracks. Sauter has multiple feature wins at Madison and won an ASA Midwest Tour event at the Milwaukee Mile in 2012.
“He has been able to help me a ton,” Sommers exclaimed. “I think that will lead to some great success at both places in the near future, hopefully that future is as soon as this weekend!”
The Friday event at Madison is scheduled as a one-day show, with all on track activity June 14. The Milwaukee event will provide for practice and tech inspection for the ASA STARS National Tour on Saturday, June 15; with Go Fas Pole Qualifying and the Father’s Day 100 Sunday Afternoon, June 16.
