ARCA Returns to MIS on Sunday, August 26th
The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards returns to Madison on Sunday, August 26th with the running of the Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200. This marks the fifth ever appearance by the series at Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile.
This year’s race will be a Sunday afternoon event after racing on Friday night in 2011. “We feel the move to a Sunday afternoon show will allow more fans from throughout the country to make their way to MIS. Last year’s show was great…this year’s will be even better,” said MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg.
All practice sessions and qualifying will take place on Saturday, August 25th making this a great two day event. Many drivers will also be making appearances throughout the Madison area on the days prior to the race.
Looking Back at 2011
Alex Bowman of Tucson, Arizona, won last years race at Madison edging Chris Buescher of Prosper, Texas, by just 0.387 seconds.
Starting from the outside of row one Buescher set the pace early on by leading the first 90 laps. Chad McCumbee took the lead from Buescher for the next thirteen laps before Clint King (4 laps) and Tim George Jr. (34 laps) took turns showing the way. Bowman, who started fourth, took the lead for good on lap 142 and led the field to the checkered flag the final 59 laps. Buescher finished in second place followed by King, Ty Dillon of Lewisville, North Carolina, and Tom Hessert of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. A total of fourteen drivers finished on the lead lap.
With the win Bowman joined Ramo Stott (1970), Tom Bowsher (1971), and Bruce Gould (1973) as ARCA winners at Madison.
Sixteen year old Clint King of Denton, North Carolina, celebrated his birthday by setting fast time with a lap of 18.205 (98.874 mph). A total of thirty-three cars made the trip to Madison.
The Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200 at Madison lies between two unique races for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. The week before Madison they’re at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and the week after they travel to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in Illinois. Both are mile tracks and believe it or not both are dirt tracks.
