Ace and Talaska Win at MIS

Chester Ace and Cory Talaska Big Winners at MIS

Chester Ace took the win in the Midwest Trucks while Cory Talaska picked up a clean sweep in the Legends as part of the Border War II Day at Madison International Speedway.

Ace Wins Midwest Truck Feature

Chester Ace won the 30 lap feature for the Midwest Trucks.

Natalie Decker and John Wood brought the field of Midwest Trucks to the green flag.  Wood took the top spot from Decker coming out of turn three.  Joshua James moved up to second on the second lap and then took the lead on lap 3 when Wood’s truck slowed coming out of turn two.  Chester Ace moved up to second and began to close on James.  On lap 7 Ace found room to the inside of James to take the lead only to lose the spot back to him on the same lap.

On lap 11 Ace regained the lead with Jerry Wood up to second and John Wood in third.  Ace had built an eight truck length lead, but Jerry Wood wasn’t going to let him get too far ahead as little by little, lap by lap he cut into the advantage.  On lap 21 Wood worked his way to the inside of Ace but couldn’t find the room necessary to make the pass.  But he wasn’t about to give up.

On lap 24 Wood and Ace were side by side with John Wood right behind the pair.  The leaders ran side by side with John Wood and Andy Jones closing quickly just before the caution flag came out on lap 28 when Mike Corvo III spun coming out of turn four.

This brought out the cone for the restart with Ace and John Wood choosing the inside and Jerry Wood and Jones the outside.  On the restart Jerry Wood slowed coming down the stretch to the green flag allowing Ace to get the lead with John Wood up to second.  Ace was able to hold off Wood to pick up the win.

“We put on a good show for the fans.  I’m glad to be in a good truck and hopefully we can keep this going,” said Ace from victory lane.

“I wish I could have had another lap,” said runner-up John Wood.

Joshua James won the first six lap heat race for the Midwest Trucks.  Jones raced side by side with Jerry Wood for the first two laps before taking the lead for good.  Chester Ace gave it a good shut, but six laps would not be enough for him to catch the leader.  The win was Jones’ first ever in a truck at Madison.

John Wood took the lead on the final lap to pick up the win in the second heat race for the trucks.  Jacob Van Wazer led from the start, but was unable to hold off the hard charging Wood.

Justin Oertel set fast time with a circuit of 18.775 followed by Andy Jones (18.808), Chester Ace (18.823), Camden Murphy (18.836), and Joshua James (18.984).

In Club La Mark Midwest Truck points at Madison, Jerry Wood has a 648-636 Iead over John Wood with Natalie Decker in third with 507 points.  Only one point race remains on the Midwest Truck schedule at Madison.

It’s a Clean Sweep for Cory Talaska in the Legends

Cory Talaska won the twenty lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends and made it a clean sweep.

Brian Griffin and Todd Schmitz brought the field of a dozen to the green flag.  Griffin was the leader for the first lap before the caution came out on lap 2 when Austin Kunert and Vince Bartolotta got together on the backstretch.

On the restart Aaron Moyer and Cory Talaska vaulted by Griffin with Max McNamara up to third on lap 3.  Moyer led until lap 10 when Talaska worked his way to the inside and snuck by coming out of turn four just before the caution flag came out.

Talaska brought the field back to the green flag and increased his lead when Moyer spun on the backstretch.  Moyer did a complete spin and was able to keep going so the race stayed green.  This allowed Talaska to build a big lead with only Max McNamara having a shot at catching the leader.  McNamara gave it a shot, but Talaska was too tough as he picked up the win by 1.233 seconds. Bartolotta finished third followed by Moyer and Kevin Griffin.

“This one is for my dad…it’s his birthday today,” said Talaska from victory lane.  “Everything went well today.”

Todd Schmitz won the first eight lap heat race for the Legends.  Jordan Wendt took the early lead before the caution flag came out on the second lap.  After that it was all Schmitz who easily picked up the victory.

Cory Talaska took home the victory in the second heat race. Kevin Griffin led the first lap before Aaron Moyer powered his way past to take the lead on the second lap.  Talaska worked his way to the lead on lap 5 and cruised to victory lane.

Cory Talaska set a new track record in qualifying with a lap of 13.725.  Completing the top five were Max McNamara (13.840), Aaron Moyer (13.877), Chris Lishamer (14.035), and Kevin Griffin (14.132).

Talaska is the new point leader in the division with a 556-542 advantage over Moyer with the team of Jones / McNamara in third place with 529 points.
