DeAngelis Jr., Brown, Hubred, Snyder and Moyer Take Home Checkered Flags at MIS

A great crowd was on hand on Salute to Agriculture Night at MIS and saw five drivers take home the big trophies:  John DeAngelis Jr. (Late Models), Blake Brown (Trucks), Kody Hubred (Sportsman), Dan Snyder (Bandits), and Aaron Moyer (Legends).

DeAngelis Holds Off Johnson for Late Model Victory
John DeAngelis Jr. won his first ever feature at Madison by holding off Casey Johnson in the 40 lap feature for the Club LaMark Late Models.

DeAngelis Jr. started on the pole and out sprinted Mike Meyerhofer for the lead.  Caution flags came out on lap 5 and then again on the restart, but both times DeAngelis Jr. was able to maintain his lead.  Bobby Wilberg gave him the biggest challenge early on before losing the second position to Zack Riddle on lap 7.  The caution flag came out for another spin on lap 8 setting up a restart with DeAngelis Jr. on the inside and Wilberg on the outside.

DeAngelis Jr. was able to keep his lead when the green flag waved with Riddle taking over the second spot on lap 10.  Casey Johnson moved past Wilberg on lap 11 with Kevin Knuese and Dale Nottestad rounding out the top five.  On lap 17 Johnson powered his way into second while DeAngelis Jr. was enjoying running out front by building up a big lead.

With each lap, Johnson was able to cut into DeAngelis Jr.’s lead and by lap 25 appeared to be in a position to take the lead.  Johnson tried every which way he could…inside and outside…but just wasn’t able to get by DeAngelis Jr. who led wire to wire to pick up the win.  Johnson finished in the runner-up position followed by Jon Reynolds Jr., Nottestad, and Riddle.

“Towards the end I thought he (Johnson) was going to get me so I had to protect the bottom of the track,” said DeAngelis Jr. from victory lane.

Riddle was fastest in qualifying while heat race wins went to Tony Brutti, Jesse Bernhagen, and Nottestad.

Brown Back in Victory Lane
Blake Brown won the 25 lap feature for the American Ethanol Super Trucks and increased his point lead in the division as a result.

Rick Corso and John Beale fought for the early lead with Corso gaining the upper hand.  Things really heated up on lap 7 when Chester Ace joined the leaders with three wide action for the lead with Corso able to hold on to the point.  Brown and Jerry Wood were able to work their way to the top third after things shook up on lap 11.  One lap later Brown moved by Corso for the lead coming down the front shoot.

The caution flag came out on lap 13 when Beale and Corso were involved in an incident.  Brown continued to lead after the green flag waved with Ace passing Wood on lap 15 and starting his hunt for the leader.  But five laps would not be enough tonight as Brown was able to hold off Ace for the victory.  Wood finished third followed by Camden Murphy and Michael Raskovic.

“These trucks are a lot of fun especially when I am able to run out front,” noted Brown.  “This is a good win for us.”

Ace was fastest in qualifying with Beale and Ace winning the heat races.

Hubred Captures Sixth Checkered Flag
Kody Hubred won the 20 lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman and took home his sixth checkered flag of the season.

Jay Kalbus and Kody Hubred brought the Sportsman field to the green flag with Hubred getting the early advantage over Kalbus.  Will Rece and Ryan Goldade wasted no time in getting up to second and third before Rece spun on lap 10 spending both himself and Goldade to the rear of the field.

Hubred was able to regain his sizeable lead over Robert Hansberry Jr. and Kalbus before the two made contact and brought the yellow out on lap 17.

Following the restart Hubred had not trouble getting out to the lead while Goldade and Jim Taylor battled for second.  In the end it was all Hubred followed by Goldade, Taylor, Rece, and Jason Dunn.

“We struggled in qualifying.  I wanted to beat Ryan fair and square tonight. And we got it done especially after last week’s race,” said Hubred.  Goldade was the fast qualifier with a lap of 20.312 while Hubred won the heat race.

Dan Snyder picked up another win in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits and clinched his first-ever track championship at Madison.

Eight cars took the green flag with Jason Coker setting the early pace.  On lap 6 Dave Schmidt worked his way past Coker for the lead with Snyder and Brian Beale up to join the mix.  The three distanced themselves from the field with Snyder taking the lead on lap 15 on the front stretch and led the rest of the way to pick up the victory in the 25 lap feature.  Beale would get by Schmidt for second with four laps to go but couldn’t catch the speedy Snyder.

“This is quite an accomplishment,” said Snyder who won his second race in a row and picked up $500.

Moyer Masters the Legends
Aaron Moyer was back in victory lane after winning the 20 lap feature for the Roto Rooter Legends.

It appeared that the night belonged to Kyle Jusits as he outbattled Chris Lishamer for the lead on the first lap and quickly built up a sizeable lead.  By lap 7 Moyer was able to move his way past Lishamer for second but with a lot of ground to close if he wanted to catch the leader.

Jusits continued to run a strong race out front, but Moyer was catching him with each lap.  By lap 13 Cory Talaska was up to third and closing quickly.  On lap 18 Moyer worked his way to the inside on Jusits on the front stretch to take the lead and race his way to victory lane.  Talaska and Lishamer were both able to pass Jusits to take second and third respectively.

Moyer noted, “I saw Talaska coming and had to make my move to get by Jusits.  Kyle ran a great race tonight.”

Moyer was fast qualifier while Talaska won the heat race.
