MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 10, 2014) – Matt Kenseth returns to his roots in more ways than one on June 17 when he’ll drive the No. 8 Smart Motors Toyota Camry in the Colony Brands 100 special late model race at Madison (Wis.) International Speedway.

Kenseth, a former Madison track champion, not only returns to his home track to race for the first time in years, but he’ll drive the No. 8 for the first time this millennium. Kenseth drove the No. 8 during the early years of his career as he fought his way through the short tracks of Wisconsin en route to NASCAR stardom.

Madison-based Smart Motors will sponsor Kenseth’s entry not only at Madison International Speedway but also at the Slinger Nationals on July 15 at Slinger (Wis.) Speedway. In addition, Kenseth will appear at the Madison dealership on Monday, July 14.

“We talked about doing something that was a little retro with these two races in Wisconsin,” said Kenseth, the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. “The (No.) 8 has always been special to me. It was the number on my first late model, back when I was 16 years old, racing for my dad. He was the 88 and I was the 8.

“Smart Motors came on board for these races and they’ve designed a fast-looking race car. I’m looking forward to returning to Madison and hopefully giving the hometown fans a good show.”

Tickets for the Colony Brands 100 at Madison International Speedway are available at the track box office and madisoninternationalspeedway.com for only $20. Kids 11 and under are only $5. Qualifying is scheduled for 4 p.m. Central, with racing scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. More information, including the full track schedule is available at the track’s website.

Kenseth’s summer swing in Wisconsin starts on Monday, June 16 with an appearance at the Matt Kenseth Fan Club museum in Cambridge, Wis. The free event is open to the public. Fans can get an autograph with Kenseth beginning at 3 p.m. Wristbands will be distributed beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the museum.
