Matt Kenseth Returns to MIS in 2014

By John Wells

Matt Kenseth will be back behind the wheel at Madison International Speedway on Tuesday, June 17th for the Colony Brands 100.

It’s hard to believe that it was twenty years ago in 1994 that the young driver from Cambridge, Wisconsin, won the super late model track championship here and would go on to pick up thirty feature wins.

Everyone knew back then that he was on his way to bigger and better things that would eventually lead to a NASCAR championship.

“We are very excited to have Matt coming back to race with us here at Madison,” said MIS Owner Terry Kunes.  “He’s been here to watch his son, Ross, race the past couple of seasons in special events, but it’s sure going to be nice seeing him out on the track again.”

According to MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg, Kenseth has always stayed close to his roots.  “Matt has come back here several times to race over the past ten to fifteen years.  He has a very loyal group of fans and this is his way of giving something back to them.”

The Matt Kenseth Fan Club will also be having a large gathering at the track as part of the Colony Brands 100.

A large field of super late model competitors from throughout the Midwest is expected to be on hand.  A support division will also be on the racing program, but it hasn’t been finalized yet.

“It’s going to be a spectacular night of racing at Madison and we are looking forward to seeing a great crowd,” added Kunes.

Details are being finalized in regards to support divisions and a complete schedule.  Stay tuned at our website http://www.madisoninternationalspeedway.com for more information.
