Hansberry, Snyder, and Sleeder Also Winners

Rusty Hansen of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, won the 30 lap feature for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models tonight at Madison as part of MATCO Tool Car Load Night. Robert Hansberry took top honors in the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman, Dan Snyder won in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, and Ray Sleeder topped the field of Roto Rooter 6Shooters.

Hansen Races to Victory Lane

Rusty Hansen won his first feature of the 2015 season in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models.

Hansen and Scott Broughton brought the fifteen car field to the green flag with Hansen quickly out to the early lead and with Ryan Goldade, Brent Edmunds, and Kevin Knuese rounding out the top five.

On lap 4 Jeremy Miller broke into the top five when he passed Knuese with point leader Zack Riddle on his tail. Dale Nottestad, who started tenth, was right behind Riddle and the two were able to power by Miller on lap 8 to take the fifth and sixth positions.

Lap 10 would find Riddle and Nottestad passing Edmunds to move into fourth and fifth respectively. Four laps later they would each pass Goldade to move up to third and fourth and begin to hunt down Broughton who continued to run in second. On lap 16 they found their opportunity and moved up to challenge Hansen for the lead.

It appeared that Riddle would have the best chance to catch the leader and on the final lap gave it his best chance but would come up short as Hansen held on for the wire to wire victory edging Riddle by 0.227 seconds. Nottestad finished in third followed by John Beale and Miller.

Riddle continues to lead the point race with a 739-728 advantage over Nottestad. Miller, Beale, and Knuese complete the top five.

Dale Nottestad set fast time with a lap of 18.738. John Beale won his second straight First Supply Dash while heat wins went to Scott Broughton and Ryan Goldade.

There’s No Denying Dan Snyder

After a first lap incident last week ended his night prematurely, Dan Snyder of Stoughton was not about to be denied tonight as he won the twenty lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits.
McKayla Adams and Cade Watters led the twelve car field to the green flag for their main event. Adams led the first lap before Nick Schmidt moved up from his fourth starting position to take the lead on lap 2. One lap later both Snyder and Brandon DeLacy were up to join Schmidt in the top 3. Steve Dickson moved into fourth on lap 5 with Watters close behind in fifth place.

Snyder kept Schmidt in his sights, but did he have enough time to catch the leader?

Schmidt was working his way around lapped traffic until being forced to slow on lap 17. That allowed Snyder to find the room he needed to maneuver to the front as he was able to get the lead, build up a one second lead and cruise to victory lane in this caution free event. Schmidt finished in second followed by Dickson, DeLacy, and rookie Chris Tolliver.

Snyder remains the point leader in the division with a 883-824 advantage over Nick Schmidt. DeLacy, Dickson, and David Schmidt complete the top five.

Dan Snyder set fast time with a mark of 15.068 while Brandon DeLacy won the First Supply Dash and Chris Tolliver and Nick Schmidt won the heat races.

Hansberry Picks Up First Checkered Flag of the Season

Past track champion Robert Hansberry of Beloit has been close, but kept coming up just short in his effort to go to victory lane. That is until tonight when he won the twenty lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman.

Rick Coppernoll took the early lead before the caution came out for a spin on lap 2. Ryan Goldade captured the lead after the restart with Hansberry wheeling by Coppernoll on lap 4 to take second.

This set up a sight very familiar to Sportsman fans this season with Hansberry chasing Goldade waiting for the right opportunity. Would tonight be his night?

After a caution on lap 13 set up another restart, Hansberry was able to work his way to the inside of Goldade going into turn four on lap 14 to get the lead.

Steve Anderson was up to challenge Goldade for second and took the position on lap 18, but would not have enough to catch the speedy Hansberry who won by 2.636 seconds. Mike Taylor and Ray Hellenbrand rounded out the top five.

Goldade continues to lead the points with 871 with Hansberry in second place with 832 points followed by Anderson, Taylor, and Hellenbrand.

Ryan Goldade set fast time with a circuit of 20.127 plus won the First Supply Dash and heat race.

Sleeder Tops the 6Shooters

Ray Sleeder of Madison won the twelve lap feature for the Roto Rooter 6Shooters. Tonight’s race featured a season high eight six cylinder cars all piloted by drivers with no previous racing experience.

Racing continues at MIS on Friday, August 14th with Pomp’s Tire Kids Back to School Night that will feature action in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models, Dave’s White Rock Sportsman, Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits, and Legends plus a School Bus Jump. All children eleven and under will be admitted free.
