Robert Hansberry Jr. and Brandon DeLacy Also Win Titles

Bobby Wilberg (Club LaMark NASCAR Late Models), Robert Hansberry Jr.(Dave’s White Rock Sportsman), and Brandon DeLacy (Pellitteri Waste Systems Bandits) were crowned track champions at Madison International Speedway tonight.

The championship for Wilberg was the twelfth of his career at Madison and the nineteenth overall. Hansberry Jr. won his third championship in the Sportsman division at Madison while DeLacy picked up his first-ever title at Madison.

“It’s been a long time,” said Wilberg. When asked about his future he said, “We’ll wait and see what happens during the off-season when we get everyone together. For now we’ll take some time off and enjoy this.”

“I never thought I would pull off a track championship. There are a lot of fast guys in this division,” said DeLacy.
Ty Majeski and John Beale Win Late Model Features

Ty Majeski started ninth and took the lead on lap 28 to pick up the checkered flag in the first feature for the Club LaMark NASCAR Late Models.

Steve Carlson and Jon Reynolds Jr. brought the twenty four car field to the green flag in the first feature race. Reynolds Jr. sprinted out to the early lead followed by Carlson, Brent Edmunds, Bobby Wilberg, and Matt Lundberg.

On lap 3 Edmunds worked to the inside of Carlson and took the second position while Wilberg passed Carlson for third one lap later.

Trouble broke out on lap 5 when several cars were involved in a wreck coming out of turn three that brought out the red flag and ended the race early for Chris Purdy, Adam Peschek, Shawn Gunsolus, and Hunter Drefahl whose cars were all heavily damaged. The good news was that all drivers were okay.

Wilberg took the lead with a great restart with Reynolds Jr. in second and Edmunds and Riddle side by side for third just ahead of Ty Majeski. Edmunds won the battle for third on lap 8 while Riddle had his hands full with Majeski for fourth.

At the half-way point the leaders had caught the end of the field which allowed the cars of Riddle and Majeski to catch Edmunds. But Riddle was not able to get by Edmunds and in the process lost a spot to Majeski. On lap 19 Majeski and Riddle were able to move past Edmunds and jump into third and fourth and set their sights on the second place car of Reynolds Jr.

Majeski got the job done on lap 23 and moved into second and was starting to close the gap on the leader before a spin brought out the caution flag on lap 25 setting up another classic Madison restart.

With Wilberg setting the pace out front, Majeski chose to line outside the second row with Reynolds Jr. on the inside. Wilberg continued to lead with Majeski up to second as the two broke away from the pack. On lap 29 Majeski moved to the inside of Wilberg coming out of turn two to take the lead. Wilberg gave it one final shot to get the lead back on the last lap but was unable to make the pass allowing Majeski to take the win. Jon Reynolds Jr. finished in third place followed by Brady Liddle and Jeremy Miller.

“It was awesome to be able to come here and race hard with Bobby Wilberg. It was a good, hard race,” said Majeski.
John Beale won a thriller in the second feature for the Club LaMark NASCAR Late Models.

Steve Carlson and Tom Gille brought the twenty-two car field to the green flag in the second 30 lap main event. Gille took the early lead followed by Carlson, John Beale, Zack Riddle, and John Baumeister Jr. On lap 2 Beale moved past Carlson for second with Riddle taking third from Carlson on lap 4.

Beale moved to the inside of Gille to take the lead on lap 8 while Riddle also found his way past Gille as the three were catching lapped traffic. Ty Majeski, who started eleventh, broke into the top five on lap 21 shortly before disaster almost struck on lap 22 when a car spun in front of the leaders bringing out the caution flag.

Beale would bring the field back to green followed by Riddle on the inside and Baumeister Jr. on the outside with Gille and Majeski in the third row.

When the green flag waved, Beale continued his leading ways with Riddle a car length behind and five lengths back was Baumeister Jr. On lap 26 Gille and Majeski made contact allowing Jeremy Miller to move into fourth.

One lap later an incident involving two cars on the backstretch brought out the caution flag and setting up another restart. As he had done all race long, Beale continued to lead putting a car length between himself and Riddle.

But Riddle quickly closed the gap and on the final lap was in a position to take the lead coming out of turn two. Contact was made between Beale and Riddle nearly sending both cars out of control. Beale was able to hang on for the win while Riddle would have to settle for second. Baumeister Jr., Gille, and Bobby Wilberg completed the top five.

“When they boo I guess you’re doing something right,” said Beale from victory lane.

Matt Lundberg won Rookie of the Year honors for 2016.

Jeremy Miller was fast time with a lap of 18.535 (97.114 mph). Ty Majeski won the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash. Bobby Wilberg was the overall winner in the RA Heating Dash Series for 2016.

Steve Anderson and Robert Hansberry Jr. Win Sportsman Features

Steve Anderson and Robert Hansberry Jr. each won a 20 lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman with Hansberry Jr winning his third track championship at Madison.

Steve Anderson won the first 20 lap feature for the Dave’s White Rock Sportsman.

Ray Hellenbrand took the early lead over Trevor Robinson with Anderson quickly up to second on lap 2. On lap 4 Hellenbrand drifted up the track coming out of turn two allowing Anderson to break through for the lead. Ryan Goldade broke loose from a six car pack racing for third on lap 8 but still had a lot of ground to catch the top two.

Out front Anderson as trying to pull away from Hellenbrand, but he was finding it wasn’t an easy task. On lap 15 Goldade was off the pace allowing Robert Hansberry Jr. to take the third position.

Hellenbrand was able to keep Anderson in his sights, but he wouldn’t be able to catch the leader who picked up the checkered flag. Hansberry Jr. finished third followed by Johnny Robinson II and Trevor Robinson.

“We kind of put it in cruise mode to save the tires for the next feature,” said Anderson who congratulated Hellenbrand on his best run of the season.

Robert Hansberry Jr. won the second 20 lap feature.

In the second feature, Mike Taylor took the early lead over Mark DePorter and led for the first ten laps before Hansberry Jr. powered by on the outside with Anderson up to third. On lap 13 Hansberry Jr. and Anderson moved past Taylor to get out front with Hansberry Jr. going up two lengths over Anderson.

Hansberry Jr. was not to be denied tonight as he held off Anderson for the win and a trip to victory lane. Anderson finished second followed by Taylor, DePorter, and Ray Hellenbrand.

“I really wanted to win the last one and come down to victory lane as the champion. This is our first championship racing for Quest,” said Hansberry Jr.

Trevor Robinson was Rookie of the Year for the Sportsman division.

Fast qualifier was Steve Anderson with a lap of 19.832 (90.762 mph). Robert Hansberry Jr. won the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash and also the Dash Series for 2016.

Steve Dickson and Nick Schmidt Take Bandit Checkered Flags

Steve Dickson held off Brandon DeLacy to win the first 20 lap feature.

Bill Kohn and Cade Watters brought the eighteen car field to the green flag in the first main event. Kohn took the point from the start with Sam Messel up to second followed by David Schmidt and James Junget. On lap 5 Junget pulled to the inside of Schmidt for third. Schmidt was not only able to hold off Junget, but was able to pass Messel for second. By lap 8 Schmidt completed his march to the lead when he passed Kohn, but it was negated when the caution came out for two cars getting together behind the leaders.

On the restart, Steve Dickson pulled to the inside of Kohn to take the lead with Brandon DeLacy up to second one lap later. On lap 11 Schmidt and Junget moved past Kohn for third and fourth place. Dickson and DeLacy worked their way around lapped traffic and checked away from the rest of the field.

Dickson was able to hold off DeLacy to pick up the checkered flag followed by Junget, Schmidt, and Dan Snyder.

“I didn’t think I was going to get back here this year. It feels good,” said Dickson from victory lane.

In the second feature McKayla Adams took the early lead before surrendering it to Nick Schmidt on the second lap. Moving up quickly from his tenth starting position who was up to second on lap 4. On lap 5 the caution flag came out when two cars got together coming out of turn three.

Schmidt continued his lead after the race went green with Dickson keeping it close followed by Junget and Brandon DeLacy. On lap 13 DeLacy moved to the inside of Junget to take the third position. Two laps later the caution flag came out when a pair of cars made contact coming out of turn two.

The field was led back to green by Schmidt who was able to keep the top spot with Dickson and DeLacy racing side by side for second. But despite the best efforts by his fellow competitors, Schmidt was able to pick up the win. Dickson, DeLacy, Junget, and Dave Schmidt completed the top five.

“It’s not a bad way to end the season,” said Schmidt in a post race interview.

Sam Messel earned Rookie of the Year honors for 2016.

Brandon DeLacy set the pace in qualifying with a lap of 14.935 (60.26 mph). Nick Schmidt won the RA Heating and Air Conditioning Dash while DeLacy won the overall title for the Dash Series.
